    Gambler vs Magician

Close. The move is known as the Tenkai Move or Tenkai Ishida's Optical Revolve or Optical Reverse. Some sources / effects using the Tenkai Optical Revolve include: "Face to Face Fantasy" in Martin Gardner's book Twelve Tricks with a Borrowed Deck (1940) "Tenkai's Reverse Card Mystery" in...

    Superhero Magic

Frozen by Adam Grace Flow by Dan Haas Hovercard by Dan Harlan (yeah, I know you said no levitation but it seriously looks like you are using the Force) Is producing long strands of colorful streamers from your mouth a superpower? If so, add a mouth coil to the list.

The Expert At the Card Table Help

Just a note, the link to the thread has a download of Royal Road to Card Magic for free. Can't do better than that. If you are asking about terminology, I don't think you are ready for Art of Astonishment. There is an assumption that you know the fundamentals. The best bet is the first two...

    "Outfoxed"

From a method standpoint (going from my memory), you don't have to wait. From a presentation standpoint, I'd have them stand and remain standing and then name all the cards at the end, in order (spectator's standing left to right) and have them sit down. It just looks more impressive that way...

    "Outfoxed"

I'm familiar with the basic premise of the routine. I like a couple of variations like Jim Steinmeyer's Princess Caraboo Deck and Max Maven's Horse Sense. There actually is a routine in Modern Magic (1876) with the self-descriptive title "To Guess Four Cards Thought of by Different Persons."...

The Expert At the Card Table Help

Expert at the Card Table is a difficult book to learn from and shouldn't be the first book someone picks up on card magic. You may also want to check out this thread on Royal Road to Card Magic (Click Here). That book is a little easier to understand.

    Think-A-Drink

Wakeling's uses a martini shaker and a bar stand. Both are integral to the effect. Wakeling's has a good presentation in that it is a bar routine rather than an any drink called for routine. Unfortunately, a lot of the drinks are dated. Hospitality has a downside in that you don't pass out...

You have the recommendations you need already: Alan Wakeling's Bar Act in Jim Steinmeyer's book The Magic of Alan Wakeling Jim Steinmeyer's Hospitality in his book Modern Art and Other Mysteries Jim Steinmeyer's Accommodating Teakettle in his book Conjuring Anthology Dan Harlan's Any Drink I...

    Conventions/Expos

Maaz: That is being held in my area of the world. I've not been to any of the Penguin Expos but they sound like there are "pro sessions" and a lecture but mostly it is a bunch of dealers selling their stuff. For the Penguin Philadelphia one, the only person doing the pro sessions is Magick...

    Malini Egg Bag

I'm still a little confused as to the issue. Ken Brooke starts with the egg in the bag before the effect begins (p.5, 2nd paragraph, 5th line). It is in the position shown in figure 2 with the bag inside out and the egg by the top hem. Charlie Miller openly picks up the egg and drops it...

    Malini Egg Bag

@Timewise64, I need a little more to go on since "handling the egg" is pretty much every part of the routine. I've got the Charlie Miller and Ken Brooke books and the sections in Tarbell (as well as a bunch of other routines). Let me know what you are struggling with and I'd be glad to help...

Where can I learn this trick?

I've not seen that effect marketed. Kevin James has a floating rose that is changed into a regular rose when lit on fire. Simon Lovell has instructions on how to make a white rose, but not vanish with confetti. To me that effects looks like class sleight of hand with a couple of additions.

Where you can learn amazing and 'brand new' magic!

Michael is an amazing magician and a really classy guy. I can't wait to watch this. Funny, I've spent the past couple of days going through certain effects in Encylopedia of Card Tricks, the Jinx and Anneman's Full Deck of Impromptu Miracles. This morning I was trying to track down copies...

    PDF's vs Books

I like books. The Aretaology of Vanni Bossi is a beautiful piece of art. Mind, Myth and Magic has a physical heft that matches the intelectual weight of T.A. Waters. The republished Complete Walton are beautiful, especially the cover for Volume 3. Roberto Giobbi's Confidences feels like a...

    Storing all things digital

Interesting. I've just been wondering the same thing about how to arrange my books. About four years ago I arranged them by catagory and author. As I've gotten more books, they have been put on the shelf grouped by when I bought them. I got Tarbell and Apocalypse at the same time, so they...
