MENTALISM: How to learn and practice?

First things first you should never hold a billet in a closed fist. The billet should always remain visible, or at least the audience should know where it is. In the Cassidy routine it is openly burned and placed in the goblet. You could write something like that on a billet however...

MENTALISM: How to learn and practice?

I mentioned A Question and The Answer in an earlier paragraph. That is the basis of the remote view routine. I mentioned that it is found in Annemann (towards the beginning I think in the late 20s). I personally hate Acidus Novis, if you want to talk justification why write it in that...

MENTALISM: How to learn and practice?

If you are serious about mentalism you should watch some of the bests, and in my opinion there is nobody better than Bob Cassidy. Derren is nice however I feel Cassidy's approach of less is more in terms of presentation appealing. Derren displays an amazing skill however Cassidy and Maven make...

    Four digit force.

You have a couple of options the 1089 force is a classic and found in many sources. Osterlind has a very clever calculator force using nothing but a normal scientific calculator. Add a No. pads are probably the best method.

    A Question to All Mentalists...

With memory demonstrations I am very on the fence. I love the concept however its more a demonstration of skill rather than the unexplainable demonstration like all the other pieces in my show. I would much rather do something like the amazing memory demonstration as it seems more impressive...

    Favorite Color Change

My refinement of the Paint Brush Change. Double lift, top change. With colour changes I feel there needs to be a moment when the card is out of sight, even if it is only temporally. This gives the spectator the moment when the magic can happen. I feel that the shapeshifter is to startling...

Through a layman's eyes, which looks fairer?

It all depends on the context of the effect. However cutting is far and away the least fair in my opinion. The real best method is palming the card and let them go nuts.

How far would you go for exposure?

As a working entertainer that is defiantly over stepping the line. However he is going to get a fair few bookings just for the publicity. But you really need to look into the long term clients and I believe that building sold relationships are more important.

    Eric Jones Twizted Metal

Eric Jones' Metal DVD is excellent, a great intro to impromptu coin magic. Twizted on the other hand is some gimmick that helps make some impossible card magic. Personally I would get Metal and only Twizted if I loved the trick and could see myself using it. An extension of me is a great set...

    Laymen killers

CAANDY is an amazing effect and kills laymen. However I agree that the true power of that effect is to destroy magicians. As far as material for lay audiences make it personal.
