Do you just do card tricks?

I have never gotten that question in 12 years. I'm being completely honest. I always open with a mismade bill routine, Warning or rubber bands. And after I warm them up go into maybe 2 card effects at most, and finish with an effect that is non card magic related.

    Famous Magicians On Twitter?

Call me crazy and maybe its' my age showing, but I think Twitter is kind of weird and pointless to follow people's every move and what they're doing. I just think it's annoying for people to post: "Eating my eggs and bacon, and then I'm going to shower." or "Went to Walmart today" Who give's a...

Doing A Trick That Doesn't Fit Your Style

Eostresh is correct. That is how new effects are created all of the time. Go back in the old linking rings from the 50's 60's 70's or go through Tarbell. 99% of what is on the market today being performed is in those resources.....it is just applied differently and has a different outer coating...

    My first stand-up show

YRA, That is good if your audience is only 20 feet away and most of them had gathered towards the front. If you had 200 people in an auditorium you would have been in some trouble. By no means did I want to sound like people didn't "enjoy" the show. I know I have a harsh way with words...

Doing A Trick That Doesn't Fit Your Style

b_08 makes a good point that indeed somethings need to be paired with other effects to get maximum value / entertainment. Heck even the order of the effects is a major concern. I will do CMH, band through thumb, 2 to 1 melt away, and then finale with Ringnature or Star Gazer.

    End of Magifest: UPDATE

No offense taken. I just think they ruined a good thing and I completely agree with your statement of a kid "jailed at Disneyland" ha ha. That is how I felt as well. I love magic conventions. Try the Abbott's get together in August as well. Have you ever been to my club's convention? Here is...

    typical night in vegas

Now that was funny formula. Ha Ha. Dealer..how about a break down of the show? What did you like? What didn't you enjoy? Any creative aspects? Give us something to work with man.

    TT cigarette vanish

Also look up Dawin's Thumbtip magic lecture notes or books. It has a ton of material for TT. The best way to vanish a cigarette is to have someone take off their nice leather coat, insert the thumb tip and then proceed to put the lit cigarette down into the TT, which is concealed in their...

    How did you do that?

I would venture to say that 9 times out of 10 for me, the "How did you do that?" is more of the amazement factor and they don't really care for a response. This was funny today in class: I take out a packet trick sleeve....the little black ones....don't even get the cards out yet and 3 kids in...

    David Copperfield's house

I've heard Penn throws some crazy a** parties at his place. One of my friends from my magic club has been to his house.

    End of Magifest: UPDATE

I understand the point of your message. Of course magic means a lot to me and I had a helluva time there but the bottom line is: you cannot operate in the black. The committee is upset that there are fewer and fewer young registrants taking the place of the once loyal old timers. In the old days...

    End of Magifest: UPDATE

Many people knew this was coming for Magifest. The location of the Renaissance was the first big major mistake. A place like that requires big time cash to lock in on the date for a yearly contract. When the Magifest crew is in the black, clearly they cannot afford to lock in on such dates for...

Doing A Trick That Doesn't Fit Your Style

Thanks for sharing this Luis. I have been there in that situation as well. Kind of makes you want to have a "do over" ha ha and pretend that you didn't just perform that effect.

    My first stand-up show

I'm going to be brutally honest as I always am. I took the time to watch this and break it down just a tad. It is constructive criticism and just my opinion so take it for what its worth. I'm 1:56 into the video and have already lost interest because you are doing a card trick with standard...

    Talent Show

If you are just an "act" in the Talent show, how much time to you have for your slot? I would say keep your act to 3 effects or 4 at most. If you are entertaining the crowd and have proper patter, 3 effects could take up 10-15 minutes easily. Personally I'd throw anything card related out the...

    Should I release my trick?

I'll give my two cents and take it for what its worth. The handling looks odd at the 0:17 or 0:18 second mark and to me it just looks like you're doing a type of flip out / pop out move from the bottom of the deck. I could be completely wrong but that is what it looks like. If you could clean...

    Help a Noob

Beans makes a valid point there. Too many times I see magicians and spectators burning the deck because there is not good interaction and eye contact between the magician and the spectators. Don't be afraid to pause...look them in the eyes and smile or laugh. This is when you can be doing a...
