    Magic at school

This is a very bad habit to get into. You are not a performing monkey. Before long you won't be able to trade classes or be anywhere without someone saying, "Do a trick for us!" It will seem fun and the attention is a turn on at first but then it gets old an annoying. As mentioned, perform on...

    Help a Noob

Sleights looked flawless. Great DL. Buy a sharpie and if you want to dress it up a bit throw it in a Sherpa cover. The effect isn't new but I'm sure you know that. Get some good patter with that and it will FRY people. The only minor thing I saw was on your pinkly pull down when not covered by a...

    Mentors?

Having a mentor and joining my local magic club helped me grow professionally more than anything else. It gets me excited to be around others who share a passion for magic and learning as much as I do. It is nice to be able to bounce ideas back and forth and to be able to get constructive...

    I'm Bored ...

Ha Ha. Aaron, I'm in the EXACT same position as you right now. I have a Canon T3i, a new MacBook Pro and have been editing and working on videos for clients and my school for a project. I'm really enjoying filming and editing. It is kind of a break from magic, however I am still attending the...

Thought I'd Share This - Not sure if It Is Old

Just thought I'd share this. I'm not sure if many of you have seen it before or if it is old, but enjoy if you haven't. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGPKpIuX3cY&feature=youtu.be

    Dan White: The Supernaturalist

Wondering if Dan has a copy...ha ha. Perhaps he could make copies and sell it or stream it somehow, but my guess is that the TV channel bought the rights to it or something along those lines with a contract. I could be wrong though.

    Skeptics?

Agreed. They have a less tendency to screw with you as in comparison to your male companions.

    Things I'm learning in college

Even better Butterfield....but many times administration goes with the All or Nothing Policy so they don't have to pick and choose their battles. Then they would have to specify what constitutes "card game". Someone could technically be playing solitaire while sitting by themselves and that...

    Skeptics?

Lots of great info here fellas. Perhaps the most important thing to realize is to stop performing for your close friends because they truthfully don't care about interrupting you and calling you out during the effect. Strangers are almost NEVER going to ask to inspect things or grab at items in...

    Things I'm learning in college

Steve, I understand your point, but I'm pretty sure out in the "real world" if you work for a boss, and you continually question his or her authority...I'm pretty sure you will be reprimanded or find yourself minus a career. Try explaining that to your wife and kids. That is on a much grander...

    Things I'm learning in college

Very interesting. I'm assuming the problems (flipping tables and such) were probably with Texas hold'em games and such on campus. Now they probably say no cards for everyone. The cannot make exceptions for some or there will be a gray area. That sounds unfair and stinks, but allowing you would...

A story from someone who needs a bit of help.

What you are referring to is basically what most agents do for their entertainers. They have a select few workers who work under them and they hire them out to events / clients to fill the needs of that particular event. Most agents take 20% commission off of EVERY single gig that they get the...

    coin magic

Formula, I'm sure you are right as well. I guess it probably just depends on how the muscle pass is used and presented as in most magic.

    coin magic

Ask yourself the question of, "Why do I need the muscle pass and how am I going to incorporate it into magic?" Here's why. I was at the magic castle 2 summers ago and watched a guy perform a flawless 2 foot muscle pass and the audience did NOT even care. I chased him down after the show and...

    coin magic

Keep in mind that coin magic is going to take a lot of time and effort to get it to where many of these top level guys have it. Some people think they can just grab coins and be up and performing like Garrett Thomas, but these guys will also be the first ones to tell you it took sometimes close...

I think I invented a trick? Advice please.

Robby, as mentioned Theory 11 does check for originality and crediting. If your effect / sleight / or move is truly original you should be fine. If it is a modification of someone else's please make sure you give credit where due or your video will probably get denied. If you are unsure and want...

JB, thanks for sharing that. It was a great quick read. I'll probably print it and take it to my club meeting this Wednesday. We always like to share articles and things like this.

    The newest magic website

I will admit that a lot of today's magic is really played up and advertised just like a movie production. I recently shot a magic DVD for a magician who basically just told me, "I don't need any of the fluff and extra BS" Just put the effects and the explanations. Ha Ha.
