Couldn't agree more. It doesn't make any sense, it's no good. And it would not work for restaurant/table hopping, trust me on that one. Also you did flash, on your right hand side. Practice the handling and use different patter.

Also, when you show that one card is face down, let the spectator pull the card out and show it around. This will add the layer of deception as you do not care or put any emphasis on the deck, so they will think the deck is normal. It's all about your attitude.

I just tell them straight away: "just take one card out, MAKE SURE TO REMEMBER THE CARD, and show the card to everybody else". I emphasize to them to remember the card. It works like a charm.
