    Filler Tricks

I wouldn't call them fillers. You should never have fillers in your show. That does not mean however that every effect needs to be a screamer. As Vernon once said - "If I could climax as much as a Dingle routine, I'd be a happy man." - But it won't necessarily make for good magic. And as far as...

Need help building a great ACR routine

The ACR routine is most powerful when it is given some sort of meaning. Tony Chang's is my favourite that I've seen done - he gives you a story about the nature of magic, it's very beautiful. So the question you have to ask yourself is this: Why is the card rising to the top? What does this...

Fournier 605 Deck Review (Lee Asher Series)

Hey Lee, I really appreciate the offer, but I'll be honest - whilst I say complaint, I use that term liberally and it really doesn't bother me at all, it was just something I noticed. Rest assured that I have the highest respect for you and your shop. However - whilst I don't have a good...

    Jerry's Nuggets

I love Jerry's. The design makes for such nice coasters.

Is it all camera tricks? Any ideas on these routines?

Actually, first thing I thought was Asian Angel. And no - it's not that hard. As I said, there are things that can be done. Some of the vanishes and appearances, for example. Also the levitation. Reminds me something I read recently..

Is it all camera tricks? Any ideas on these routines?

I don't know how practical it would be but there are a few ideas I can think of for some of them...

Fournier 605 Deck Review (Lee Asher Series)

Holy crap. That's a massive review. Well done :) My only complaint that for a company that prides itself on strict quality control... My borders were off! Only very slightly... And barely noticeably, and less noticeable than an average deck of Bikes, and only because I'm obsessive compulsive...

    New Generation of Magicians

It's easier to perform for magicians than laymen.

    Which do you usually choose?

Generally, I buy from MJM, they usually end up cheaper. Small items, I buy from the brick and mortar, but here they're generally pretty inflated, even taking into account shipping and currency conversion. But MJM have a pretty darn good range. I buy things from T11 and E if they have something...

    Gravity Half Pass

It sounds like the main problem is your left hand. Yes - it should move, but not by much. The cards DO need to clear the cover card(s). But, to do this, the only movement on the left is this: Your entire left arm should rotate slightly inward (i.e. don't rotate from the wrist, use your entire...

    A tribute to Harry Lorayne

Mmm. It's not all technology's fault either, though. A performer knows his craft. One who performs but does not know his craft is a poor imitation and nothing more. Or at least, attempts to.

    One liners

I actually agree with aln_d, albeit not the way he expresses it. This is the way I see things: a heckler is not just a heckler. A heckler is an audience member. An annoying type of audience member, but an audience member nonetheless. When I perform magic, my biggest concern is entertaining...

t11.bulletin - SHINOBI CONTROL by Emran Riaz : Now Available

Fair point, but I would submit that timing, rather than misdirection, plays a bigger role. The rhythm of the effect, and its beats, and so on... I honestly don't think you need a spectator to directly look away to, say, put their card in your mouth. There's an effect in Osterlind's book...

t11.bulletin - SHINOBI CONTROL by Emran Riaz : Now Available

Just to add, though: misdirection should always be the icing on the cake, and never the cake.

    Kid's Day Gig....

Luis, massive respect. I've never performed in a hospital, but believe me, I've been on the receiving end, and it's hugely appreciated by everyone.

    A tribute to Harry Lorayne

That's really quite sad. Harry Lorayne is one of the most well known magicians within magic circles (or anyone with a modicum of magical knowledge). He's published quite a lot, and his card magic has been essential reading for anyone calling themselves a card magician for decades. Personally...

    Gravity Half Pass

If it's too much movement and not enough gravity, then you're not doing it right - most of the motion should be gravity. The only movement that should actually occur is the left arm rotating slightly, and the right palm putting downward pressure, that's it. You shouldn't need to worry too much...

    The.Machine

I read these two reviews on the demo first, and at first I had no idea why it was so negative. The handling could use some work, sure, but... And then it got to around 50 secs in and... I'm guessing you probably already know this, but there was a few seconds of I can't believe someone put that...

    Magic Basics

Hey, 13 Steps does tend to do that to you, especially for beginners. This is the thing - 13 Steps is a great book because it covers so much of mentalism. It has so much material, even just looking at the first chapter, on Swami gimmicks. It explains everything, what each gimmick is, etc., and...
