    Parlour type routine, please help

Of course you have to have technique - things like being able to read minds, or body language. Things like the ability to hypnotise someone. The ability of suggestion. There are loads and loads of different techniques and abilities. Granted, you have to present them differently to magic -...

    Parlour type routine, please help

I disagree respectfully ka_chun. My set is completely mentalism and contains no sleight of hand; I don't see the need. As long as you're actually good at the material, you can do it. I'm not sure you understand what mentalism actually consists of. To imply that mentalism is just a whole lot of...

    True Astonishments - Shipped

Warlock - Mat La Vore kindly made a thread about the Easter Eggs he's found. If you want to find them yourself, don't read it, but if you'd rather just get right to it and skip the search, have a look, he's done a good job listing them.

    S.W.E. Shift

The Gravity Half Pass is taught in Aaron Fisher's excellent book The Paper Engine. It's a little tough to get used to the movements, but it's well worth it. That's exactly what I'm saying. A lot more people would know about it and use it, than if say Bruce Cervon created it. It does suck, and...

    Card Finish

I disagree entirely with your reasoning for using Bikes. There aren't "familiar" cards in Australia, so by your reasoning my spectators should think that I'm using trick decks all the time. But they never do. It's all in how you handle them.

    Did anyone get Organic?

Did you really read the overview or did you just read about the tricks? If you're only focussed on tricks you're not gonna do very well.

    S.W.E. Shift

Alright, well I see your point - although I strongly disagree with what you say about the Clipshift. Have you heard what many respected magicians are saying about this? It's not wow. It's nowhere near one of the best controls. And everything it can do, other sleights can do better - mediocre...

What are we really asking? The subtext of magical questions.

Holy ****. Awesome post man. Re-reading my own post, I felt rather clumsy in how I expressed things. But that, was awesome. Keep up the good work in your practice regime too, kudos for doing that man. Great post, great points.

What are we really asking? The subtext of magical questions.

You bring up some interesting and legitimate points. I guess I just wanted to ask - you bring up price worth result. Couldn't you argue that this is actually just disguised laziness? It's, will I have to work for reactions or will the trick be easy to do? Asking about how much time they have to...

What are we really asking? The subtext of magical questions.

Hey guys, I had a thought today (a surprise in itself), and it was prompted by Theory11's 1-on-1 Blind. As it stands I haven't really thought about it in much detail, I just wanted to put some thoughts out there. I'm not passing judgment, I don't have a strong opinion on this yet, but yeah. I...

    S.W.E. Shift

I don't really get that sentence... It sounds like what you mean is, In the future, someone famous might start using the S.W.E. Shift lots, and hence make it popular to magicians and worth learning. I mean, why else is the Clipshift popular >.> Not a criticism of you navasai, just a general...

    Magic is annoying me...

Sure man, no worries. Look forward to hearing the results - and i hope this does get sorted. Incidentally - whether or not it is presentation - do read Strong Magic as soon as possible, it really is that good :)

    Magic is annoying me...

Read Strong Magic. By Darwin Ortiz. It'll be worth more than any book or DVD of tricks you own, and improve your magic by ten times anything else. But yes - in short, presentation is the key. It might be where you'd like it to be, but in my opinion it does sound like it's not where it needs to...

    True Astonishments - Shipped

Which is great... Except that you're wrong. I was merely correcting you - so rather than be corrected, you just label everything pointless. Typical attitude of typical magicians. Might I remind you that you were the first one to argue the point. Semantics indeed.

Card Magic for Amateurs and Professionals?

It's considered a classic of card magic, and it's written by Bill Simon - so yes, regardless of skill level, it's one of the things you should have in your library. Plus as with similar Dover reprints (The Art of Magic, Card Manipulations, etc.) it's very cheap. Good value for a solid text and a...

    S.W.E. Shift

I've only ever seen one magician good enough to perform it flawlessly live (in person). And it was good. But it was a bit overkill, using such a difficult move when any number of sleights would more than suffice - it was shown pretty much as a demonstration for us magicians.
