Taking WOW to the next level - A MIRACLE!

First, congrats for thinking about an idea so many are doing out of the box. But yes, as "mentalism" this is flawed. The moment you do something "magical" it ceases to be a display of mental phenomena - it becomes slight of hand, or magic or something. That's not to say that this wouldn't be...

What do you think a card magician should own?

    A manicure kit. Brad Henderson

    Rare Colour Change Battle

Just for those who care - I think Clipshift MAY be a reinvention of an Eric Mason change that has been in print for at least 30 years. I do not have Clipshift, but someone showed the basic mechanics to me, and it seems identical. So, at one point, it was rare! Brad

    Pass battle open for voting

RD, perhaps I was unclear. That was not what I was saying at all. What I was trying to communicate is that in executing the pass, I envision the finger pulling the top half back and around. If one were to actually study the mechanics, I do not think it really does that. However, by keeping...

    The Magic Cafe

Steer, buddy. I find your post both accurate and highly ironic. We getting closer to common ground, yes? Brad

    Pass battle open for voting

It's a tough habit to break. My pass is a little different, so this may not work, but I think about using the forefinger to pull the top half inward and around. Does it really do this? Not sure. But I know that in "thinking" it, it keeps my finger in the correct position. Brad Henderson

    Pass battle open for voting

RD, your left first finger pops when doing the pass. This is the most glaring tell with the pass. (Vernon used to snag one's finger when they would demo it for him.) Do not let it straighten out when passing. For what it's worth. Brad Henderson

    Need Some Advice

Well, he recommends what I just iterated: The more well rounded and interesting of a human being you are, the more chance you have of your magic being interesting to others. In the Experience of Magic, for example, he recommended his 10 favorite non-magic books. (This book is still in print.)...

    Need Some Advice

I have not read all of your posts - so I cannot say. I tend to be selective about what threads I open, based entirely on personal interests. I agree with you that Cedric's position was/is an indictment of all theater/film/art which can be replicated. It is always troublesome when people...

    Mentalism

Can we evolve beyond the line by line tedious replies, please? In your post re: Card College you dismiss it because you felt it was too much material. You then went on and on about how you did not feel someone laying out a path for you was productive - citing a saxophone teacher. I do not have...

    Mentalism

Actually - no. Corinda issued a series of courses each dedicated to one skill which made up - what he believed to be - the core skill set need to be a mentalist. How anyone can conclude that Corinda in any way leads to Derren Brown rip-offs is beyond me. Perhaps they have never actually read...

    Need Some Advice

Nothing. You are just an excellent example of someone who gives a lot of advice/states dogmatic opinions without anything more than the assumption that their experiences/desires/outlooks are universal to back them up. Many do that here. You, however, stand out because of your post count...

    Need Some Advice

And this is the danger of the internet: Anyone can offer advice and there is no accountability. (I call this the Steerpike Syndrome - but that's just me.) Someone, like Cedric, can say anything and walk away. Sadly, someone who might be more thoughtful about their work may choose to read...

    Stage magic?

"Solid act" and "less than a week" are mutually exclusive conditions. I know you say you don't have the time and props for stage magic, so maybe you should wait a year. Think how much you could learn in a year with a solid goal at the end! Spend some time and some money investing in your...
