    Collection

Hyped decks maketh not the magician. Or something like that. I've got a dozen SM half half, my regular working deck, an unopened Cent from ages ago, and two brown Wynns from way back when also. Other than that I've got a few assorted old decks (Studs, Aladdins, Arrcos) from when I was deciding...

    Stage Shows

Just make sure you perform the mentalism well I suppose. It's a silly thing to say as a piece of advice, but I will say this: Mentalism generally tends to lack the visual moments a card effect might have, so do play it big, let them see the mentalism. If you could actually perform mindreading...

    Flashed

I've seen people screw up self working tricks, easy tricks, hard tricks... It happens. If your spectators don't know you've screwed up, you can sometimes recover if your head is screwed in and you're quick on your feet. If you can't, just apologise and move onto the next thing.

    Two Marlo Sleights...

Hi all, I'm looking for some information on the history of two sleights published by Marlo. The first is Edward Marlo's Unit Upjog Addition, first published in Marlo's Magazine, Volume 1 (1975). This is now hard to find a copy of, so I was wondering if anyone was aware of where else this...

    Happy New Years

Happy New Year all. I hope you've all made resolutions too. Have a great one all. And if it's midnight right now where you live - shame on you for reading this and not being out celebrating! Peace, and take care all ~praetoritevong

    TA by Paul Harris

Definitely getting it. It's Paul Harris, not someone who continually rehashes old crappy effects and puts them onto new DVDs every month.

    Mentalism - Force

LOL. Haha that was brilliant. Alan... It depends how pure you want to go. By which I mean, it's very easy to control a card and hotshot it without knowing what it is. Force and control is very easy and simple and can be presented as mentalism. If you want to get further up in terms of...

    E.I. by Luke Jermay

Put it this way. Is it easy to do? I wouldn't say so. It doesn't have lots of sleights, it doesn't have things to remember. But you have to realise that performing mentalism is different from performing card magic. It's not difficult in the sense of sleights - in this sense most mentalism is a...

    What is this trick?

John Kennedy invented a Mid-Air Card Stab some time ago. I do not know whether it is still available. Alain Nu also has a handling of the effect in the December 1999 issue of MUM magazine (Vol. 89, No. 7).

    Inspiration?

Hi Ramo, I want to share with you a quote that a friend showed me a little while ago. It's about theatre - some of the regulars who read my posts may know that I am an actor as well as a student and magician, so I love theatre, and I'm rather a performance theory buff. That said, have a look...

    Raise Rise

See, these two guys, perfect example. IMO - they're both at the stage of having gotten the motions down after a lot of practice. Is it up to performance standard though? I wouldn't say so. liquidsn has some very nice videos out. But compare to how solidly he does his DL, how solidly someone else...

    Improvising Training Routines

It will feel different; the reason for doing this is, when you practice in front of a mirror, you can't help but look at your reflection in the mirror. Your reflection can tell you if you're flashing a sleight, doing something wrong, etc - it basically provides you with the spectator's point of...

    Improvising Training Routines

Hey Dennis, welcome! Well as far as practicing sleights go, why don't you practice while watching TV, a DVD, or chilling to some music, or something like that? Just have a deck/coins/whatever in hand while you sit there. You could even practice while reading a book or something like that. The...
