Bank Note Aristocrats at PENGUIN!!! Cheap!

http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S13386 Go Nuts guys! I just got some of these from another dealer, Before I knew Penguin would get them. If you are into Gambling demos at all these are a MUST. These are so smooth and easy for riffle stacking, push-through shuffles, Bottom deals etc. Very similar...

    Hidden Gems

Yes...I found it odd that some wouldn't want to give them up. To be honest I think it is the least you can do for the creator. After all, the more people who use his material the more money he makes. The stuff I'm not willing to give up is the stuff that I developed myself and want to get some...

    Hidden Gems

Chad Long's "Flash"-I can't believe that thing wasn't a huge hit? Peter Turner's(with Kenton Knepper) "Devious Realities" Lee Asher's Booklets- Full of great stuff. Gradually becoming less and less hidden as he released individual PDF's on some of the better stuff contained within....But...

    Which cards do you use?

That is awful nice of you guys! He is right though. Different cards have different characteristics and are not inherently "better or worse." I go through pains to review cards based on characteristics(without regards to my personal preferences) Nobody is completely free from subjective biases in...

Tailor your personality or be yourself?

In general I would agree with C. Browning. I think that is all in all the best advice for most magicians. But that is also for guys who don't have a specifically developed character. For people with very specific characters, however, I think Johnny Butterfield hit it right on the head. Gazzo...

    My first "mentalism" show!

Fair enough Craig, Define it how you like. If you want to call it an act then that's what it was. A 50 minute act encompassing 7 different effects, 3 of which were multi-phased, all of the effects followed a consistent theme that was congruent with my character and his "powers." It was performed...

    My first "mentalism" show!

80s era Punk slang where people in the "in" crowd would, when referring to the best Punk bands, claim that they "sucked" hoping to keep the "posers" out.....either a referance to that or he thinks mentalism sucks ;)

    My first "mentalism" show!

Thanks. There is actually a lot I plan on working on...This is just the beginning. I think I'm kind of hooked! That is a good idea for the haunted pack to set this up. My current character is basically a hypnotist who also uses the power of persuasive linguistics. Using those skills I give off...

    My first "mentalism" show!

Well the show was a real hit and I am hoping to move it to a bigger venue this coming fall. Here are some highlights. My regular camera went 8TFU just before the show so the video quality was really dark on the camera I used. :( Oh well, I had a great time and judging by my audience reactions...

    Gambling Tricks

I agree with that, except the Gambling Protection series(only because I don't have it so I can't comment.) Richard Turner's stuff is excellent(he is my personal Favorite) but I still think Fundamentals is a great place for a beginner. Turner's stuff can be pretty burly for a beginner.

    Gambling Tricks

Yes, they are great. Honestly though, I would start with Jason England's Fundamentals. He just does the basic gambling moves but he covers them better than almost anyone. I have some of Ackerman's Advanced card control series, those Darwin Ortiz DVDs and both are great but it wasn't till I...

    8 Ball Productions

David Penn has a nice one in his lecture notes and on his Toppit DVD. David Regal also has a nice one as well. Dean Dill has an effect out where it pops off of a card. There are tons of 8-ball productions out there.

    Counterfeit Hollingworth by Wayne Houchin

I just got mine in the mail today...I was completely speechless for a while after viewing it. A TnR that is every bit as pretty to watch as Mathieu Bich's and a million times more practical. LBarns mini review pretty much hit it on the head. If anyone has a chance to go to Wayne's lecture and...

    Triumph All Over Your Face

I thought it was a very clever triumph routine. The misdirection of that little spread of the left hand packet was great. It really caught me off guard the first time I watched it. The only thing that took away from the illusion was the final series of cuts. All the cards are face up. In a...

New Business Card Design - Thoughts Needed

The style is in Comic Strip style art. Like Farside, Doonesbury, ect. Within that style it fits Josh as a performer as that is another of his hobbies. He certainly could get a caricature artist but I honestly think the detailing on a caricature would not show up well on a business card. That...

Devious Realities E-book: By Peter Turner (with K. Knepper)

Thanks....yeah this is my first review(other than a card review!) in a good long time. I also got an advanced look at Peter's 2nd book and I'll post that in a week or so. Cheers!

Devious Realities E-book: By Peter Turner (with K. Knepper)

At the Heart of Destiny: The performer invites a couple on stage (married or dating) and asks them their names. He jots their names down on a post it and sticks it on the outside of a paper bag. He asks the woman to reach inside and pull out a rose. He then asks the man to reach inside and pull...

Devious Realities E-book: By Peter Turner (with K. Knepper)

IPI (Instant Pseudo Induction): This is, as it says, a phony induction. Peter walks you through how he gives the appearance that he is inducing someone into a trance without having to go through the lengthy pre-induction and induction sequences. This can be very useful for a variety of effects...
