Nothing says you HAVE to use that method of picking a card for the cascade. The same control can easily be accomplished using a "pick a card" method. You only need a break for the control.

Perhaps make a video of what you're doing and show it to someone who has it. I don't know what else to tell you.

Just figure out the kind of angles you want. Ask him to hold steady or if you want movement, Just walk him through each part. I mean...not the hardest thing to do. Just make it unbearably clear how you want it. I tend to prefer looking down on the cards from about my height and get the angles...
