how do you do the thumb fan

i have been practicing flourishes and false cuts but one thing i just cant seem to figure out is the thumb fan. It just doesn't work for me at all

Try holding the deck so the long edge is on top (horizontal) and your thumb is on the left side of the deck (if you are right handed) The tip of your thumb should be at the far edge of the deck. Then just use your other thumb and spread the other side to open the fan.

do it exactly like the video above (by fontaine). watch the video, and practice. When you try it for the first time, it will be a nuisance, mostly they'll spread out in blocks. So keep practicing for a day or two, and you should be set. (Note that this works best with a brand new deck, and you'll have to wear out one deck most probably.)
