I have been doing magic for about 6 months now. Not exactly new but I still consider myself new. I have always heard magicians talk about Laymen in a negative way. What exactly is that or who is that? I am just wondering so please no anger towards me for not knowing.

Laymen, or the laity, are those who are not initiated into a particular circle. They don't know the jargon, they're largely unaware of the academic theory, they probably don't know a whole lot about the notable names, etc. There's nothing wrong with them per se, they're just not knowledgeable about this particular subject. Magicians who talk about the laity in the negative fashion are pricks because the laity are more commonly known as the audience.

Oh, and there will be no anger towards you unless you reveal a trick, or talk bad about Danny Garcias numchuck skills.

problems with laymen in general:

1) learn tricks from wrong channels. Like pirated videos or trading. they don't care about the community.
2) when they can't perform a trick because it is advanced, they get bitter and make tutorials to expose it.
3) They are usually wannabes of a certain magician and copy his style a lot.

Also remember: magic doesn't make a magician, magician makes magic.

To be fair -a lot of people who are magicians, very well taught and obsessed, fall into at least one of these conditions for a laymen.

Great advice - Shakespeare can be done both well and terrible depending on who is on stage performing for you.
