Magic and You

I want to ask you a question. Why do you perform magic? Do you do it to get a film so that you could show your buddies on a forum. Do you do it to get personal satisfaction? Or do you do it for the wonder and amazement that your spectator feels every time they see a magic trick.

There should only be one answer.

Let me tell you a story. It was June 31st 2007, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, it felt as if the world fell apart, but I didn't mope about it. I could have easily sat and made everything about myself. I could've acted like a bitter old man, but I looked towards others. My magic, could have become all about myself and personal satisfaction, but I turned to the spectators and kept it about them, which is the reason I perform. And it should be the reason you perform to.

When performing for the spectators and not yourself you allow yourself to connect on a extra level with the spectators. I allows for better reactions, better moments of wonder, and better connectivity. It'll be as if you've known them for years, but you've only known them for a few minutes. Which is the true wonder of magic.

Keep your magic about the spectators, not yourself.

This was a post from way back in the beginning of this forum, I know not to bump threads even if they are intelligent, so I will do what the locals do and make a new thread. But unlike most of the threads popping up this one is well thought out.

Never a truer word said. Magic for other magicians means nothing to me. I don't know many tricks (Only maybe, one...) that would impress or fool people on this forum, or even someone with an intermediate knowledge of magic, but i don't care. Every trick I do regularly works wonders on laymen. And that is what matters.

Despite being young like the majority of you on here, I didn't start magic through ellusionist or learning stuff through the internet. I started when I was eight (fifteen years ago) with a cheap book a found in a shop and a crappy magic set. I also live on a small island so don't meet many other magicians. There was no youtube back then (didn't even have the internet until i was 16), so i wasn't posting videos for other magicians to watch and comment on. All I had was 'normal' people to practice on. So that's why my magic is the way it is.

Magic for real people.

Peace

i know we should keep our magic about our spectators, however, i keep it about me always, but in this aspect...

i always use magic that i feel other will like...i feel if i don't like it, they won't like it, nor like me performing it...i didn't start magic at a very young age...i started it when i was in my teens, however, school wasn't important to me, nor did a job, so all i had was my magic, yes my grades suffered to a point, but i never failed nor did i quit, i graduated with a B average..i just didn't use all my potential to my schooling...i let magic became my life...i read, learned..but VHS's and later DVD's became my friends....i now have a way of takin at least something out of every sleight and try to use it an a totally out of normal way....put it with my original ideas....and then i have presented something new....

magic is also a generated business for me, so yes i want to profit, but first i want to amaze and make others have fun, even at bad times...i want them to have that escape like i have...

...and your input on the subject is where? This is just a "technical" excuse for getting around necro-ing a thread.

I honestly thought you were going to start introducing some really good content, given what you're trying to do by just necro-ing the threads. Alas, you've proved me wrong. :(
