Need help with voodoo trick!

Hi Guys!

I've just come up with this awsome idea to take Nathan Kranzo's voodoo card to a different level, but I need some help.

Basically, the spec takes a card and puts it in an envelope supplied by the magician. The spec is then given a piece of paper and is asked to draw their card on it. The magician then explains that the spec has created a link between the piece of paper and their card. this is shown first by punturing the piece of paper with the pen, and when the card is removed there is a puncture in the card in the same place. this is repeated with another act of card mutilation (or maybe 2) and is ended when the magician pulls out a lighter and tells the spec to burn the paper to ash. When the envelope is opened, there is only ash inside. everything is examinable.

I need your help because so far I can only think of the 2 ways mentioned to mutilate the card without making it seem too far fetched and unreal. I was thinking of ripping it in half but thought that might be too much of a statement.

Any card mutilation tips are accepted.

Thanks,

Cards are so played out. If you really could create a symbiotic link between a person and an object during a voodoo experiment would you honestly use a card to do so?

Can this be done with another object? Dolls? Even Paper dolls? I think it's a neat idea but you lost me the minute you said "card". If you MUST use a card (for method or handling) then may I suggest a blank card with a body outline drawn on it?

Just my two cents.

Well you could do this in a form of a card trick... Basically force the card which is inside the bag then do a magicians force on which angel (on the back of bikes) then they put a pin or something through that then maybe tear it in half then you open the bag and how the link has worked... Just my idea. I would love to hear what you think. Thanks...

William, I love the idea for the body drawn on the card. I didn't want it to be seen as a card trick because to me that isn't the angle that I wanted. I want to create a magical experience for the spec, not for them to think 'not another card trick!' so thank you. I could maybe develop it to be used with something else, but for now just as I'm getting it on its feet I'm gonna stick with cards as thinking of the other ways to do it for me would use too big a prop, but if I put some thought to it I'm sure I could come up with something!

Alfie, I think that idea is fantastic and thanks for sharing it! I think if you would like to develop it, show an indifferent card going into the bag with the pin separate, and use a change bag/envelope to switch it for the reveal, but when revealing start with the back, then turn it round to show it has changed.

Nearly forgot, the idea is that basically the paper version of the card is meant to represent the card in the envelope, not the person that drew it which should hopefully clear some things up for William. I realise that this is making it a card trick, which is why I thank you again for the body idea.

Can anyone think of anything else I can do to the card apart from puncture it and burn it, and do you think that if I did rip it it could be looked upon as magic rather than taking it too far?

Thanks again,

Buy a pack of index cards and draw a body on one of them. This should take it away from the "card trick" aspect and still allow you to retain most of the same methodology.

The index cards would work really well if you were trying to separate it from a card trick.

You could possibly use an object and a picture of that object. Do something to the object (picture on an index card) and it happens to the photo too. That would be some crazy time-travel voo-doo.

Index Cards :).

Great for all kinds of things, most of them are blank on one side and lined on the other.

I don't know about Guy Hollingworth having a version, Brad Henderson could probably help out here. I learned Kranzo's handling at his lecture in September, it's a nice effect but I never thought about using it. Kranzo uses a business card and a playing card, spectator ends up with a business card in their hands.

Just to let you know, A big Thank You to everyone that has helped me with idea's.

The trick is in the first stages of prototype and as soon as its ready I'll be sending out a copy to the people that have helped me on this forum.

Thanks again!
