Like the title says, I have had a hard time finding any tips on this topic. The best I could find was an old post on ellusionist's blog, and it just isn't enough anymore.

Well, since I know all you people are pros on theory11, here to uphold the true art of sleight of hand, I believed that it was finally time to put this issue to rest and to address it properly. The question was this:

What, if you absolutely had to do so, would you put in you own personal portable street magic/XCM/magic survival kit?

I thought of posting this thread after watching Chapter 4 of the Xtreme Beginnerz DVD. One segment detailed what De'vo carrys in his case to do magic with. And those got me thinking...

Ever since I started doing magic, I have filled up a similar bag; it has changed frequently but my latest bag is this:

So, I wanted to know what suggestions would you people make for the bags of different types of magicians out there (cardist, XCMer, street magician, stage guy, etc.)? What items are instrumental for some good magic performances? (Besides cards; EEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVVERYOOOOOOONE knows that cards are the meat of the sandwich in magic kits)

One way to put this out is to list the items you recommend or better yet, what items you do carry around in a street bag should you be fortunate enough to use one. Even better? Pix. I'd love to see what kinds of stuff you carry in your magic kits so that I could have a better idea. I'll post some of my own images soon. ;)

Bonus question: How would your answer change if the question was about preparing for (1) a magic convention like the Ohio Magi-Fest or (2) some big trip to the other side of the world like Indonesia?

No bag, just clever pocket arrangement

When I go out on the Street:


Belt Loop: Keys
Right Front Pocket: Cell Phone, Redline Gimmick, Quarter
Left Front Pocket: Red Bicycles, Blue Studs, Five Balloons
Right Back Pocket: Two rubber bands, Three English Pennies
Left Back Pocket: Bill Switch
Right Ear: Black Sharpie

That makes 25 effects I can do on the spot.

School:

Right Front Pocket: Cell Phone, Redline Gimmick, Quarter
Left Front Pocket: A theory11 deck
Right Back Pocket: Two Rubber Bands, One Balloon
Left Back Pocket: Nothing

That makes 21 effects I can do on the spot.

Every Friday I bring a different gimmick.

-a plain deck of cards.
-a deck of cards with a small stack I use at the top. Prepped for my twists on "French Kiss" and Twilight Angels.
-a homemade gimmick for "Burned" - yeah, that trick STILL gets HUGE reactions
-PK ring for various illusions..
-a sharpie...
-a set SLR bands, which also work well for other elastic band tricks...
-my electric shock lighter...just for fun...yeah, I'm a bit of an *** too....:D

Nothing.

I find carrying around a deck of cards can be rather silly unless you are doing a professional gig. Learn something like Acidus Novus or The perfected Center tear and everything you need will be at said persons house. (people have note pads and pens all over the place.)

STREET MAGIC ESSENTIALS FOR ME::
A deck of cards, sharpie, 2 large rubber bands around my wrist along with smaller rubberbands around my deck box, quarters/nickles, ring on my hand.
CONVENTION/GIG/OTHER ESSENTIALS FOR ME::
Along with those stated above,these include spongeballs, D-lites, a few gimmicks, rope, extra cards, double backers, a packet trick or two, notepad and paper, buisness cards, rubber cement, string, extra rubber bands(various), extra decks, and finally double sided tape.
