You don't like tearing cards? You're gonna have to start being less protective of cards. If you don't like tearing cards, you probably don't like signing cards. Magic is much more powerful when a spectator can have something that's one of a kind that you just did something impossible with. So do this:

1. Get $20-30
2. Go to Walmart
3. Buy about 20 decks of cards (they always have 2 for 1 packs so the cost would be about half as much)
4. Start performing

When your cards get old and sticky, open up a new deck and start regularly performing with that. When people sign cards, remember what cards they sign and keep and replace it with a dupe from your old deck. Pretty soon you'll have a nice little bundle of extra cards and you won't have to worry about not being able to replace the cards you ruin.

I don't own this effect but I'm pretty familiar with the method used and I HIGHLY doubt printer paper would work that is way too thin. Why don't you use business cards, the thickness of it would allow this effect to be performed with it I'm sure.

Also, I get what your saying about the cost of cards but c'mon, I'm sure you have to have some old unusable decks that you can use for this. Think about it, your only tearing up one card that can easily be replace with a dup card from an older deck. If that's not the case, maybe a TnR effect might not be the best way to go.

Problem solved! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-NEW-DECKS-B...2509?pt=UK_Toys_Casino_RL&hash=item5193f7344d and according to google 3.99 GBP = 5.84838 USD so you are getting 2 packs of cards for under $6 dollars US, which isn't any more expensive than over here in the US. So purchase REF4M and start tearing those cards! Also, I don't own the effect yet, but I love the demo of it and am going to get it soon, but couldn't you just use the Jokers as the torn cards? I'm not sure how it is done, but if you can do it that way, then that is basically 2 extra cards per-pack you could use to perform the effect without ruining any of the cards you would normally use.
