S&M - Sold Out

http://www.theory11.com/playingcards/smokeandmirrors.php

Hey no one has said it yet so I would like to inform every one that the Smoke And Mirror decks are now out of stock at Theory11. I also took the time and look at www.dananddave.com and they are sold out to with no plans at reprint.

I am glad the I bought three of these decks on Wednesday night :D

I just wanted to inform every one. Any thought on 3rd eds.

I have yet to get a pack, because of my location in the world, but i hope they will send them to reprint...

I'm hoping they don't reprint them...I got a half brick of each of the first editions, and a half brick each of the special editions (second editions), both within the first week of release (for each respective release), and I'd like to think that my haste will pay off in the end by having these cards actually be collectible.

It seems like the second edition kind of took some of the specialness away from the first editions (despite the slight differences in packaging and back design), and I'd really hate for there to be a third edition to completely take away the collectability of both the previous editions.

If people really wanted the deck, they would have purchased them when they had the chance. I got my father to purchase the first editions as a Christmas present super early (although I didn't get them until Christmas), seeing as I knew they were limited and I wanted a few packs before they sold out (and wanted to make sure my brother got a few packs, as well).

Others could have taken measures (i.e., borrowing money) to make sure they could get a pack or two, had they really wanted them. It seems more like now that they're sold out, their rarity makes them desirable, and now people want them even more (makes sense--people can't have something, so that makes them want it even more).

Ruining the collectability of them just to please those people would be really disappointing--I'd lose a lot of respect for the Bucks, seeing as they'd just be getting greedy. The first editions, it made sense to sell off the extras. The second editions...okay, lots more people wanted them, great. Third editions? Please. The people who wanted them should have already purchased them. I'd really hate to see the collectability of the older cards get ruined for the sake of pleasing those who didn't have the foresight to realize that a stock cards (or any item, for that matter) don't last forever, and they should have picked some up sooner.

If people really want them that bad, there's always Ebay.

Well now see, that's the thing (The end of my last post was a joke) I had always thought about getting them, but never did for the same reason that I have yet to get myself any split spade deck. They feel to personalized for the people that made them. And i'm not saying that there is anything wrong with that, just that it doesn't really work for me. For less money I have a pack of blue fan back tallys that i've been using for maybe two months that's only now almost on it's last leg lol. But to each his own I suppose.

cm763: actually. when they print a new edition, the other ones become MORE collectable because they are rare.

Technically, it shouldn't effect the collectibility of them. Whether or not new cards are printed, the old ones still have the same numbers (or go down in number), since none are being printed anymore (and some are being used).

With the First Edition Black Ghosts, for example, they were as collective as ever both before and after the release of the second editions, because they were so rare. But that's the thing, it was their rarity that made them desirable.

However, with the S&M decks, they weren't quite as rare, although they were still decently rare (well, the first editions were, anyway). But, the main selling point with these was their stock and finish, not their rarity. They're a good thickness, and they feel really nice--and they last a very long time. It doesn't really matter which edition you got, they both feel essentially the same (although, some would argue about being able to tell there are minor differences in how they feel--whatever, the differences are very minor, if there at all). Thus, the demand is lessened for the editions that came before them, because they can now focus on the newest editions (which would be cheaper, and easier to get), since they handle essentially the same and that's why most people get the S&Ms. There was no jump in demand for the first editions once the second editions came out--people just moved on to the second editions, because they were essentially getting the same cards (barring a few minor visual changes).

I don't know...maybe I'm the only one who likes to see the things I buy appreciate in value.

You're not the only one who likes to see what they buy appreciate it value. I like to see that happen to my stuff aswell, but only if i'm buying them as collectables. And I never really have a lot of money at one point so I buy what I can use. I mean, if I really wanted to save money I could always go back to bikes, but I love my tallys too much lol.

cm763 majority of magicians use cards to perform and to use. I hope they make a new batch sicne there great cards and there great to use
The majority of magicians that I know, and a good portion of the ones who post online here, use regular Bicycles to perform with.

You may disagree with me all you like, but I believe specialty cards are nothing more than eye candy for the individual, not for the audience. Hence why I've seen a lot of people mention that they'll practice with or collect specialty decks, but rarely use them (opting for regular Bicycles instead).

I hope they don't make a new batch, because their first two batches were already great, and I'm sure anybody who wanted them could have gotten them by now (they were available for quite a while)...those who didn't still have Ebay as an option. :)

If your really just buying S&Ms for their potential 'rarity', that just sucks, cos these things will NEVER become as damn rare as Jerry's or Black Ghosts, mainly because... well... T11 or D&D will NEVER be THAT cruel and hype it all up until all the kids on Youtube will sell their genitals for a deck. XD That would be wrong lolz

I have one each of the first edition smoke and mirrors, and one each of the second (or "special") edition of the smoke and mirrors in my collection (unopened, of course). The other five of each are for using (so that's 4 decks saved, 20 decks for usage). :) I do the same with every deck I purchase (save one for the collection--always in the cellophane), because I enjoy collecting cards, just as much as I enjoy performing magic with them (ignoring the fact that I mainly do mentalism, opting for regular Bicycles, 1800's, or (white) Ghosts when cards are necessary ;)).

And I don't necessarily collect cards hoping they'll be as rare as Jerry's or 1st Edition Black Ghosts (I have a deck in my collection though, yay), but it's definitely a bonus for them to be at least a little bit rare.

Like I said, though...Ebay people. I've heard people saying how great they are, how not rare they are, etc...that means they'll be easily and cheaply available at online auction sites (I keep naming Ebay, just because it's the most popular), so there's really no current worries. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about, when they're still available at a fairly cheap price outside of T11. Is that the problem? That you have to navigate outside of this site? Aww. :(

As for the future of the cards, I'm sure there will be a third ("unlimited") edition, since I can't see the Bucks passing up a chance to make some more money. Who says no to money, when noone's getting hurt? Exactly. You'll get your cards soon enough, just be patient.

Why go to ebay when theory11 can make them here? Why are you so selfish?
