Well, this may sound very generic and similar to others stories, but I consider 2008 to be my biggest step forward in terms of not only magic, but essentially everything I love doing in life.
Firstly, this year started with me finishing off grade nine, and into the wonderful world of the tenth grade, I am currently on break, but will go back Monday. Before grade ten, my magic was only see by friends around school, and my family. I was quite excruciatingly nervous to get anything accomplished outside of my comfort zone, and at times I wondered if I was wasting my time, and now large about of money on magic. Basically everything started to pick up in the summer before grade ten, my somewhat local magic shop was hosting it's monthly contest and I had always been interested in entering but always talked myself into just waiting for "next time"(for the first few, it never came). Anyways, for the past 2 competitions, me being a sort've...professional... graphic designer had only done the banners and logos for the contest. Anyways, that was all the past, I had a few days to let them know if i was in, then two weeks to build myself a solid, crowd-pleasing routine. Without much thought, just going with a good-mood-flow, I entered. At first the nerves never hit, and I built (what I thought) a good routine. 2 weeks past rather normally, with patter and a routine in mind. The day had come, and on the ride there I was still rather relaxed, we went out to eat beforehand, then the nerves hit. I couldn't eat my food, and although this sounds very extreme for a minor gig, It felt as real as anything. We went in, and with all the magicians around I was a little intimidated, but it faded and in time it was ready to shine. The kid before me sort've choked forcing me suprisingly first, I just went along with the routine and it felt great, the crowd liked my jokes, and I didn't seem to mess up, (I may be too selfconsious but i might've once). The contest was over and I came in third place, pretty good for me considering i was beaten by a juggler. Anyways, since then I am alot more confident in proving myself to be a good magicians to others, as I mature in age I notice myself maturing in personality. My magic "career" is as steady as ever and I hope to have magic with me for as long as I live.
In terms of other stuff in my life, my graphic design has really been picking up, I have designed websites for magicians like Jamie Dawes(scared) and I am getting a 92 in my design course. My basketball life has also excelled, as I made the varsity team and right now we are rolling! Im doing the things I love and excelling with flying colours
2008 has been great to me, and my goals this year is to just keep doing what I'm trying to do, im currently satisfied with life, so why change?
