Hi,

Im quite new to sony vegas, i used to use Adobe premiere, so everything about this new editting program to me, is alien. I was wondering though, if someone would be able to assist me in creating an effect that i found in an old video.

The basic premise is, i wanted to create a an intro kind of like the one in 0:28, Course, being a complete newbie to sony vegas- i can barely even create a text let alone create a complex animated one like that.

Please and thank you!

Hey,

Obviously Vegas is a good choice of software, especially for people with less knowledge of special effects. However, i do not have any experience in Vegas but i can offer you a bit of advice as i have a lot of experience in Adobe After Effects, which, if yo ucould get a hold of, would probably be easier for you after a while as you say you are used to Premiere. After Effects is more for experienced users but its not that hard to get a grip of once you know adobe programs.

So yeah, if you can, try and use After Effects, as those effects are much easier to create on it, and i can help you directly.

As far as my advice goes on how to create those effects in vegas, i suggest you try the following:

There are probably easier ways, but to stop the video and pause it to put on the names and shapes, i would suggest cutting the video timeline and then taking a snapshot/screenshot of the place you want to stop, and slotting this in between the cut section. That way it will get to the screenshot bit and pause on that for however long you want and then go back into the video. But like i say, i have never used vegas and so im sure there will be easier ways to do that.

As far as the shapes and such go, just fiddle about with the toolbars and you should find one that allows you to draw on shapes a bit like microsoft paint. Again, in After Effects i can do this easily, but vegas i have no idea, just fiddle about with the settings.

Good luck man, check this [ http://www.videoforums.co.uk/ ]site out for any information you need as to more specialised editing in Vegas.

Thanks, that was very helpful, unfortunately i cant get hold of aftereffects, and plus- i dont think Adobe can read MOD files, which is what my video camera spits out. Anyways, if there are sony vegas users out there, show some input :)

Cheers!

Hi,

As much as i'd like to trust you, its a bit painstaking to install and re-install adobe premiere only for it to deem MOD files to be 'corrupt' and 'unreadable, when other video editting programs such as Vegas, reads it fine.

Which is the main reason why im here, learning how to use vegas. Otherwise, i'd be using adobe, which im quite confident in. :)

Thanks!

You may want to PM a member here called Papercrane Productions. I believe Mandy is her name and she uses Sony Vegas if I remember correctly. She knows her stuff.

My apoligies Sinful, i did not mean to sound so matter-of-fact in my post. I have had problems with MOD files in the past and i had to bring in format converters and the lot, i only meant to clarify that it is possible but involves painstakign work.

Anyhow good luck, Vegas is a nice piece of kit, and for the level you are using it, quite user friendly too.

Hope you manage to attain the effects you want!
