ive seen the performances and understand the concept and how the trick works. i havent bought the trick, rather done it all by my onesy. I can get through the routine about to the point of showing three 2's and no ace (i use an ace of clubs and the two of hearts) but once im there i dont know what to do next. Any advice or anything like that would be incredibly helpful! thanks!

I know exactly what is it you need to do.

Buy the trick and stop stealing Garrett's material.

Sorry, that's not really considered ethical among magicians. When one magician creates something and shares it with the rest of us in a book or video, it's generally agreed that we owe them the courtesy of not just taking it without paying the asking price for it. Magic is very hard to copyright, so we as a community need to work together to make sure that our fellow magicians aren't losing out. Very few of us make millions, or even a good living, purely from creating magic, and we don't want to be part of the reason why Garrett Thomas or any other creator, might decide that it's not worth his time and effort to put products out for us to learn from.

In other words, as Christopher said, buy the trick if you want to learn it! I just thought I'd explain a bit more as you clearly wouldn't have asked the question on a magic forum if you knew what the deal was.

I didn't realize this was a problem, I've only been a social magician for a few days. I just don't have the money to buy the trick and thought I could work through it on my own like I have with most other trick. I won't make this same mistake again.

I can't help you with the problem, but I wanted to say that there is nothing wrong with figuring it out yourself, I perform a different version of Dresscode because I figured it out. I wouldn't suggest asking about it on a magic forum, but try watching the performance. My dad uses serious logic to figure out my tricks.

Yes there is something wrong with stealing. When you reverse engineer an effect that is being sold you are stealing. You can not talk about it all you want but it is still wrong and it is still frowned on my magicians at large. BTw know what happens when you start trying to learn with out buying the effects? They stop putting out new stuff. They only share or sell to workers at conventions and lectures. I wish I knew where this mind set of kids these days came from. That it is okay to just take what ever and that it's okay.

Hopefully you are doing my version of dresscode.
