Hey, I have loved Derren Brown for a fair ammount of time now and so hey, I think I'll give Mentalism a try...

Can anyone recomend some good books (or DVD's) to teach some tricks, the foundations of Mentalism etc?

Thanks in advance.

for starters you need a good center tear (the best is richard osterlinds center tear from what i hear) and/or peak, and maybe a swami gimmick if youre into that

I personally don't use swami's (I know I should) but a great book is Cordina's 13 steps so is Practical Mental Magic. However I would recommend Cassidy's 39 steps as it is a little easier to read and Banachek's Pre-Thoughts as a nice cheap easy show. It will get you a feeling of what mentalism is plus I still to this day get requests to do that show for parties and such just because it is so amazing.

I'm going to recommend Practical Mental Magic and Bob Cassidy's Fundamentals over 13 Steps.

The former two are specifically designed with accessability in mind, whereas 13 Steps is meant to put everything in context. It's a little daunting for beginners, so I would say that PMM and Fundamentals make better beginner books.

Still, it's better than what usually happens with everyone recommending Luke Jermay.
