Hey everyone,
Zdogmagic here with my first review on a trick.
Static!!!
Effect: With the spectator's finger touching the top of the deck, the deck slowly splits ITSELF in half. With a touch, their chosen card SHOOTS out of the pack. The deck is completely examinable before and after the effect. They will find nothing at all.
It's simple, powerful, and a well priced effect that is practical.
Price: Extremely cheap at $19.95
Teaching: For those of you who have bought Buck Twin stuff before you'll know just how good the teaching they give is. This DVD has no exception. Everything is shown step-by-step at a fairly slow pace to get what he is saying.
The DVD was shot in high quality so the picture was crystal clear and the audio was amazing.
Gimmick quality/ease of use: You're going to laugh when you see the gimmick because it's one of those gimmicks where you say, "Now why didn't I think of doing that?"
Dan does tell you how to install the gimmick but it will take a few times to get used to installing it but once you have the gimmick installed it's re-usable a lot of times. I've got about 100 uses out of one of my gimmicks so far, I use it a lot while practicing it and to see it because it is absolutely amazing and once you get good at installing the gimmick you can install it into any deck you want.
I've got a gimmick in every type of deck that I currently have. Even when you run out of the materials you can easily goto your local magic shop and pick up a bunch of it but the likelyhood of you running out of the materials (there's enough to make at least 50 gimmicks included in your purchase) is a very long shot unless you have a collection of a few hundred decks of cards and want to install one into every single deck.
Difficulty: Well on a scale of 1-10 1 being I didn't even need to practice it before doing it 10 being I will probably never be able to do it within my lifetime, it is about a 3-4. The most you have to do is cut a deck of cards and touch the edge of the deck and the gimmick does the rest of the work for you.
I would say even if you're not into cards, the reactions you get from this effect (which is immediately repeatable with a completely different card) This is an absolute dream to do and you can even let the spectator handle the deck and you can use the deck for other effects with little chance that a spectator will see the gimmick. So if I can't even tell the difference between a regular deck and a gimmicked one what chance of a spectator finding it is right?
Applications: I think this can be a great opener, closer, or filler to any of your card routines. It's just as good as any other card effect you can do. The only problem is that there's not much of a story behind this except a tradtional haunted deck story can do but the effect pretty much speaks for itself.
It's good for almost any type of venue but I don't think it would be good for stage unless you have a huge table and jumbo playing cards but that would be a long shot to install a gimmick into a jumbo deck.
Overall Rating: My overall rating from 1-10 1 being this is an effect that should be thrown away immediately and erased from magicians minds forever 10 being if you don't get this now I will hunt you down and force you to buy this because it is an amazing effect I would give it a 25. It is one of my favorite effects and for the price and the reactions, it's amazing
Also the cool thing about it is it's one of those effects you can immediately repeat over and over again with a different card, but I'm not too sure if you'd want to repeat it too many times even though nobody would figure it out in a million years and I think getting the card signed is pretty much pointless to do because it kind of takes away from the effect but you could still have it signed if you want to. I've actually performed this for my parents about 5 times in a row and they still can't figure it out.
Hope everyone enjoyed this review and this is my first review so let me know what you thought of it.
Sincerely,
