USPCC Targeting Magicians?

Just something I've noticed... throughout the past couple years, the USPCC's target consumers seemed to be card players, if you remember Bicycle's numerous adverts about card game rules, how to play, win online, etc. Recently, I've noticed with their latest decks seem to be a bit better quality than they have been in recent years and there's little details that I feel only magicians would deem useful. For example, their latest public deck, the Dragon backs, has a back design on the box as opposed to an advert, and includes a double backer in the deck. That deck is even available in your local Target. Also, the USPCC recently produced those "David Blaine Magic Decks". What are your thoughts?

Maybe laymen find double backers cool. Who cares?

And who the hell do you suppose uses playing cards the most? Surely not card players or magicians, no... Too obvious. Must be somebody else.

yes i feel that usps is just keeping up with demands and suggestions. Im sure a good portion of the card buying market is magicians, so they are going to cater to magicians. also if a laymen finds a double back card, they will just think its a filler, or a misstake card. not a big deal, but uspcc is def marketing toward magicians, and im perfectly fine with that. and the dragon back are pretty nice.

Yea, I definitely love the fact that they're making their decks with people like us in mind, :D.

I think you guys are all confused. They just stopped making gaffed bikes. They stopped changing the back design to cater to gaffs that we use. They changed their boxes. They stopped printing cards that alot of magicians liked. Ellusionist is only able to call the finish on their card "air cushion", I am not sure but I am guessing uspcc told them they have to use one of the normal names for finish. They don't give a crap about magicians. Just because they put out a couple blaine magic decks and a deck of ugly cards that have a double backer doesn't mean it was for magicians.

I can't stop laughing...

I'd say something witty here, but it'd be a waste of my time to think up of a reply better than this.

He asked for my thoughts, I gave them to him. But I guess you're too cool to be sarcastic in reply to threads you believe deserve no merit for their eloquent style in starting a conversation for the benefit of the community as a whole?

The definition of pseudo-intellectual babble.

Hey Sam,

I don't think these things are particularly reaching out to magicians, specifically, but moreso to card enthusiasts of all types. Of course, magicians only make up a small minority of playing card users, with the vast majority being card players of various games.

With regard to the back design on the box, that is how playing cards had traditionally been for a long time - so certainly not something new with that particular deck. Regardless, I think these small details are indicative of great overall improvements at USPC these past several months. Production quality has significantly improved with the new presses and quality control equipment, and our latest runs of decks (Smoke & Mirrors v5, Sentinels, DeckONE, etc) have all felt incredible right out of the box.

What the hell does the U.S postal service have to do with this?? I just had to say that, lol.

Anyways.. I do enjoy the Dragon backs and the double backed card, I have yet to try any of the the David Blaine playing cards, has anyone tried them? If so, how are they?

P.S. The thread title wasn't a pun was it..? ... Because of how it says "Targeting magicians" David blaine's cards being sold at target and all...

I have to agree. The only thing they care about is the number of sales. Magicians are a negligible group of buyers.
And I don´t agree that the quality is getting better. In my opinion, the new decks are worse than the old ones (and price increased!), and I still have an old brick of Ohio bikes. For me, the new ones feel like sandpaper after a while. And quality control ?
Different cuts in the same brick seems to be normal, or I´m just damn luckless.

Remember that us magicians make up an extremely small portion of playing card purchasers. While we magicians and cardists most likely buy more cards than most, the Casinos and average joe's picking up a deck at Wal-Mart for Billy-Bob's weekly Poker and Beer Pong night make up the majority of playing card consumers. That said, I think that the USPCC recognizes the Magician and Flourishing community - never know what the future holds!

Hahaha, I'm just happy someone noticed. Oh, I think I misspoke, DB's cards aren't being sold at Target... at least not that I've seen. Or are they?

I agree as well. I have noticed quite a few brand new decks come out of the box with a click bend. I think the quality has declined since the new owners took control of the USPCC. I'm not happy about it, but I still love my bicycle decks. They just aren't as good as they used to be.

I'm not exactly sure about DB's cards but I purchased my Bicycle dragon backs there so the pun still works ;)

Porper Card Clip fixes "click bend".

Just sayin'

Porper fixes all.

Back on topic, that "click bend" may not have anything to do with USPCC. You have to think how Bicycle Playing Cards are shipped to Wal-Mart or whatever store you buy them from. They get there in a box full of other crap to go on the shelves at Wal-Mart. They go from warm temperatures in the USPCC warehouse to a truck (remember its still cold outside) to ship to a warm Wal-Mart warehouse. Then from the warm Wal-Mart warehouse they are distributed all over america via delivery trucks (back in the cold and remember all the crappy rain and snow as of late). Then when the cards get to Wal-Mart they sit in the back of the store (still cold) for who knows how long. Then get brought out to the racks in the warm store.

Now don't get me wrong, USPCC quality has changed for the worse but weather and temperature changes do hurt a deck of cards during delivery and storage.
