Dai Vernon: The Spirit of Magic

I've watched that documentary before and it had me thinking that they should do a live action biopic of Dai Vernon. I think it would easily be an Oscar-worthy contender. The question is, who should star as Dai Vernon?

    Free effects and Price Decision

Interesting question. People will often post free effects to gain notoriety if they are new to the magic seen. It will get people to trust their style and design so that way they will be more willing to purchase an effect from them in the future. As far as pricing goes, this follows the same...

Ring and Rubber Band Magic Versus Card and Coin Magic

My street performing style tries to connect with the audience as if I'm just a regular guy who can do cool illusions rather than a magician that has the stereotypical cards, table with cups and balls, etc. So this won't be for everyone but this is what I have come to learn in my experience...

    One Man's Treasure - Another Man's Trash

I can see your point in that to some people the object in question may be considered trash but you are missing the main point of handing out souvenirs during street magic. I had struggled with trying to gain a local following for putting on a show. It was hard for people to notice or even to...

A new effect and old questions.

Wow! Thank you so much for your kind words. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. The Doubting Thomas effect people see the coin through hand and assume they know how it's done but in actuality it's a gimmick that becomes a utility move. That was my bad on the marketing of the effect and...

A new effect and old questions.

Creating magic is a skill just like any other talent in magic. Some people are just naturally born with the gift of creativity (Blake Vogt) and others have to practice constantly at it until they learn all the nooks and crannies of making something that's marketable. Also, sometimes creativity...

    david blaine: beyond magic

I know this discussion is old but I found Penn Jillette's thoughts to be very interesting. The video does contain strong language though so use discretion before viewing:

    Saturday Night Contest - CHAOS

Here's my entry from an effect I use in my own working repertoire at a special needs camp. Hope you enjoy and good luck to all involved!

    Magic Competition

(*Mew forum due to mis-spelling in the title of the old one. Please remove the old thread with the incorrect spelling in the title moderators. Thanks!) Hey everyone! With the holidays coming up I am in the spirit of giving. I'm also tired of just talking about crafting routines, magic plots...

    Magic In Southern California

If magic went mainstream, wouldn't that mean that there would be more magic just not as original or mystifying as it is today? To comment on magic being not very popular is best explained by a story I learned from Jeff McBride. Two shoe salesmen head to Africa to research the consumer base...

I miss it. It was a good show.

    Vapr help?

Not quite. It could be other things as well or this new heater coil will break just as easily. As someone who bought VAPR as well, I can tell you it's a dud and a waste of money. Don't give up hope though. David Bonsall on his website has created an alternative fix for the entire product.

    Vapr help?

I have this same issue. Apparently the heater coil breaks frequently.

    Coin Magic...a dying art?

Haha no that video was not made by me. It was the guy who reviewed a "coin" release that I put out. I just shared it because I thought he was enthusiastic about it which shows that doing coin magic can still be cool.

    Odyssey - Alignment Issue

Ah yes I know what you mean! That can be quite frustrating. Just be sure that the misalignment is facing your body when you do transpositions to your thumb. If it's not directly facing you, try to snatch the ring off your thumb as fast as possible. Most people won't be looking for anything if...

    Odyssey - Alignment Issue

No all the rings are this way so you did not receive a defective unit. Calen teaches you how to cover this in the video. Hide the misaligment in between your fingers so your spectator can't see it. The "secret stuff" that makes this work isn't that strong so there is going to be an alignment...

    Coin Magic...a dying art?

I don't think it's dying. In fact, I think it's growing. My first official magic release ever was a utility to move that was not exclusive to coins however people mainly bought it for the ability to put a coin through hand. Also with the recent releases of Blackbird by Jeff Copeland and...

    Aiming Thumb Propulsion?

For shooting cards up in the air and catching it, I just use the long distance spinner move taught by Oz Pearlman. It took me quite a while to get down but it comes pretty naturally now. Not sure what the thumb propulsion technique is.
