Favorite Trick from Expert Card Technique

Exclusive Coterie - essentially an ungimmicked dream of aces routine. So simple, so effective. Also, I find the recommended patter HILARIOUS. But that's just my sense of humor I guess.

    Erdnase on DVD?

I'd hold on to my cash If I were you. There used to be a very detailed review on the Phantom Notebooks blog, but the site seems down now. The reviewer went into every chapter and every move featured and compared it to the book. The verdict: Garbage.

    Performance Zero

You are right in so many areas I can't even begin to count them. Required reading for magicians who find that they end up as trick collectors without the ability to entertain.

    Velvet Turnover

I think he discusses it after the section detailing his 3 card routine. I can't be certain, I don't have the book with me now 'cos I'm at work. The Velvet Turnover is perfect for table work, but for standing up situations, not so good. This is because the angles involved are covered much...

My thoughts on Bee Playing Cards

I don't normally geek out over cards, but the Bee Ace of Spades is f***ing beautiful. If you've not seen it, you should.

Performance - Just 20 minutes ago

I'm honestly not trying to pick a fight. Perhaps I could have worded it less offensively, and for that I apologize. Looking at my post, I realize I must have come off as a huge jerk. Sorry for that. Still isn't it wrong to expose a sleight, no matter how 'trivial' just to 'gain an...

Performance - Just 20 minutes ago

Do not do this EVER again. Do us all fellow magicians a favor and help us keep some secrets please.

Personal Fear :: Feeling Limited By Age

I started 2 years ago and I'm 27 this year. I know how you feel. I'd like to think age is irrelevant, but its not. The fact is that people who are older have much more responsibilities and have much less time to practice. How do you make efficient use of your practice time? For me I...

One of The Single Greatest Effects I've Ever Seen

I think Tommy Wonder published a similar effect, but his was an 'in-the-hands' transformation. Your friend sounds like he adapted the handling to the table in a spread.

What cards do you guys use?

    Red Aladdins. Red Bikes.

    A rant.

I can say the same thing about the double lift, DDC, side steal, double undercut, illogical control etc. Lay people are a lot smarter than we give them credit for. That's why there are so many controls to choose from. Keep em' guessing.

    René Lavand?

If you want to learn a one-handed FALSE riffle shuffle, sure. =) I don't have any of his stuff, but I'm sure you will learn a lot from just watching him perform. His style might not be suited to everyone though.

    A rant.

Agreed. Erdnase himself offers some solutions, however they are extremely angle sensitive. (SWE shift, Open shift) He still recommends the classic pass though, of which he says the packets can be transposed 'in a flash' and 'without the least noise'. I'm quoting from memory so I can't be...

    Minority: Ace Effect

Disclaimer: I am not an expert, simply an amateur magician who loves cards. My opinions are most definitely debatable, and I would love to be proven wrong so I can learn as well. My only qualification is that I have been toying with the same effect for quite some time. That said... I...

    Improving T11

I don't think that's possible. They may stop contributing to the forums, but I don't think the quality of magic in general will suffer for it. That aside, the quality of the tricks can be improved a bit. I could go into some detail here with my opinions, but this is not the place to discuss...

    I invented a cool trick

<Begin Satire> You ripoff. People like you are the reason why magic is where it is today. Your so called new effect actually belongs to Bill S. Hithead, who came up with the idea in the late 1890's and published it in a 3-Page booklet "My c00| 7r1ck5" in 1910. Your handling is exactly the...

S.W. Erdnase's "Expert at the Card Table"

http://phantom-notebooks.blogspot.com/ A great source of inspiration for the Erdnase inclined.
