    Magic Shops suggestions?

I think David Roth also works at Fantasma as well.

The world's hardest and longest card cut

So you admit to it being nothing much more than magical wankery. Look, I may not be into XCM or flourishing, but what you did was neither. Usually with most XCM and flourishes there is some substance and flair to it. What you did was the equivalent of a small child running around in circles...

The world's hardest and longest card cut

Sometimes you gotta be mean, to be nice.

The world's hardest and longest card cut

No he has a point, sometimes it's better to the be the one to tell somebody they had a bad idea. Rather than let them end up thinking something lame was good, then they end up becoming one of those rejects from American Idol that everybody laughs at. So far, the "cuts" themselves seem like...

    TheMagicCafe...

I think it's actually better to combine both DVD's AND books. Why not get the best of both world's, video can often times be better because some of the times the guys who edit and write magic books don't know how to properly describe an effect to you in a way that makes it seem less like your...

    Misdirection

Michael Vincent constantly talks about that in his DVD's. I'd say the best way to structure your effects/routines like that are to simply script your stuff.

    Misdirection

Tommy Wonder, Slydini and Michael Vincent talk about it a few times. But mainly the idea of very contextual in that it would vary from situation to situation. I know Michael Vincent goes more down the path of doing the dirty work during moments of relaxation, which are simple things like...

    How do you get gigs?

    Talk about having proper misdirection!

    How do you get gigs?

Your best bet would be to perform at restaurants, that way more people would see you perform once or twice a week (or however many nights you're at said place.) and you're business card would be in more people's hands. For most magicians that's pretty much the pipeline for getting "gigs", now...

    TheMagicCafe...

You forgot to mention that the place is a freaking maze (Do they REALLY need a subcategory for LITERALLY everything?), as well as a eye sore that looks god awful. What's sad about it is, a simple redesign of the cafe would take them 10 min at the most to turn into something that doesn't cause...

    Magicians are like "cover bands"

It most likely boils down to the guy probably not wanting to go that extra mile. A lot of BIG names in magic will often tell you to study more than just magic. I know I've heard John Carney suggest taking acting classes and so as Michael Ammar and possibly a few other major players as well. I'm...

    Magicians are like "cover bands"

I think the main problem is that a lot of magicians Pro and Amateur just aren't interesting people in general, so they end up hiding behind how good the effect may be as well as hiding behind somebodies else's patter. Now sometimes, I can see WHY you wouldn't want to alter the scripting of a...

    Best opening card effect

Card under the box seems like an actual effect and more like the climax of an actual routine. What with how you could literally end just about ANY card routine with it. ACR ends with card under box, etc etc. I would say that any opener should show the group that you know your stuff and be...

    restaurant magic help!

The problem with working for tips is that you are not getting paid for your time at the restaurant. Sure, people later on MIGHT hire you for gigs, but why waste your time with the "maybe". If you are getting paid nightly or hourly at the place and it's a slow season, you are still making a...

    restaurant magic help!

I would suggest leaving the one place that is only going to pay you tips, because you'll end up barely making any money their and you'll feel like a beggar.

Do you let people examine your props or cards?

How about if your Soft Morgan dollars and just mention that they are antique coins passed down from your grandfather and so on. I'd think that type of scenario would work.

Do you let people examine your props or cards?

Like if somebody asks to shuffle the cards and it has no impact on the routine and is just dead time, do you let them do it or simply say no. I was reading some stuff on the cafe and one guy said he had a repeat customer who constantly wanted to examine everything and even went as far as...

    Good Patter and telling stories

Which is why I have suggested taking acting classes or even just Theater or Drama classes at the local colleges, yet so many people have ignored those suggestions. Which was rather odd.

    Good Patter and telling stories

You generally don't have to have a "good story", just have decent scripting that connects with the people you are performing for in one way or another. This shouldn't be a hard thing to figure out, just take something that you have in common with your friends or family and relate that to your magic.
