Is exposure a significant problem in magic?

I would say that most, if not all, of your respondents have been quite hospitable and extremely patient. The rules are not mine. They are, however, the rules of the forum and everyone who participates is expected to abide by them. If I am off base on my comments I am sure that others will...

Is exposure a significant problem in magic?

This IS a bit tiresome. If it doesn't affect you then why do you care? And why should anyone else care about you not caring? And BTW...thread bumping much?

    M-Case questions

I completely agree that there should be a refill option. You get a red bicycle box which is fine but the refill should allow you to construct the gimmick into any card box. That would be an outstanding option.

What do you think about guerilla street magic?

Yeah, okay, but what about chimpanzee street magic?

    Definition of a Magician

Reminds me of this quote: "Magic, as exhibited by the majority, is the indulgence in a hobby which rarely instructs, seldom amuses and almost never entertains." Dariel Fitzkee Showmanship For Magicians

    That was a joke. Sorry.

I can do that in reverse.

    Magicians ARE NOT liars!

When I think of tricks (or illusions) and actual, purposeful liars I think of the con artist. It's a matter of intent and environment as far as I'm concerned.

    Questions About Card College

Volume 2 is currently out of print. It will almost certainly be reprinted at some point and when it does you will see it for sale at its normal price. Someone else here on the forum said that volume 2 is available as a download for a reasonable price at lybrary.com so you may want to check it...

    Magicians ARE NOT liars!

Have to disagree. No one who is of sound mind believes magic is real. If magic were actually real then it would be part and parcel of reality which it clearly isn't. Even very young children have a pretty good grasp of what is and isn't part of reality. It is up to the magician to convince his...

    Classic pass, THE right moment.

My advice/opinion is, unfortunately, to shell out some cash for a video. I got started in magic in the early 1980's and didn't have any of today's tech available (like free vids on youtube which, as discussed elsewhere, aren't necessarily an advantage). I didn't have a VCR (which was really...

    Magicians ARE NOT liars!

Actually, I've never heard this. Seriously, not once. I have heard people say that they hate magicians in much the same way that some say that they hate mimes. But, hey, you can't please everyone so...no big deal. So...you "hear this all the time"...that "people say that magicians are liars..."...

What Theory11 decks do you still need?

Mailchimp Summer Original Rarebit Brown Wynn 5th & Laurel White Centurions Red JAQK Original JAQK Maybe one or two more but the above is what immediately comes to mind. Just recently completed the Bicycle Metaluxe trio. Completed the Monarchs. Several more...

    Professional?

Regardless of the trade or skill... Professional: It is what you do for a living...you derive most, if not all, of your income from this. That is, it is your profession. Semi-professional: It contributes to your income but is not the majority of your income. Amateur: You derive no financial...

What do you think about my magic library?

Wilson's book should be in every serious magic library. Another one that I would recommend that is available for very little is The Amateur Magician's Handbook by Henry Hay. You don't see it discussed very much but it is well written and illustrated and covers a surprising number of topics.

Top 3 Cards you use for magic (besides bicycle standards)

Well, screw it...I like Bikes. Hesslers Crimson Luxe Shadow Masters I like Bikes because they are what most lay-people expect in a deck of cards. These cards are all substantially different from standard bikes so they are both comfortable with lay audiences and yet stand out as special...

    What Deck Should I Buy

I like the Contraband deck. Very visually pleasing. The Artisans are very nice, as well. The Ellusionist black cards such as the Black Tigers or Shadow Masters are a good choice.

    ISO Silver Monarchs

Unless you just happen to know someone who has one they are willing to part with you are in for a long search. I scan ebay for decks frequently and silver Monarchs for sale at any price are exceedingly rare. In my experience, the only T11 decks that are harder to find are original Rarebits...

    Card Magic For A Beginner

That is a great performance. Coincidentally, that is almost certainly Gilbert's version of Lavand's "I Can't Do This Any Slower." Not that it is in any way less of an achievement...it is a great performance. And I would be stunned if Penn & Teller didn't know this and were actually fooled. But...
