    Magic Lessons.

I got my start in magic when I was attending university. Somewhere on campus I stumbled upon a flyer for an evening class on beginning magic offered at the local community college. It turned out that the class was taught by the owner of the magic store in town (pretty coincidental, eh?) and it...

My Top 10 Decks of Playing Cards (2017 Edition)

That was a very nicely produced vid. I liked the way that the only things visible were the cards and the hands. And yeah, gold Monarchs are very nice...I think I have three of them. I have to say, though, that my favorite set of gold cards are the Bicycle Golden Luxe. I wish that I had more...

Returning to the fold... Expert at the card table...

A decent source for getting an idea about the value of an old book is Abe Books which can be found online. Understand, though, that the values listed are what the sellers think they can expect to sell a book for which is not necessarily what you might expect to get for a copy that you own (I...

    Performing Magic for Kids

Colorful and simple has always worked for me. If I am going to do something for a very small group in a closeup situation the effect that I like the most is the hotrod or, better yet, color changing pocket knives. The Mogar knives have a huge variety of colors and patterns and you can do a...

    Unpopular magic opinions.

My unpopular opinion: Any trick that involves extracting things from one's mouth* is pretty tasteless and shouldn't be performed. *Exception: The late Tom Mullica's Nicotine Nincompoop which is so over-the-top ridiculous and gross that good taste is irrelevant.

I'm just starting and need some tips

And yeah, books. In a club books can be passed around which is economical. Invest in good basic books... Royal Road To Card Magic. New Modern Coin Magic. Routined Manipulation (all three). Stars of Magic (if you can find it). Tarbell (dated but still holds up). Add a book on theory such as...

I'm just starting and need some tips

I would suggest joining a magic club. Not one around you? Start one. Collaboration with real live helpful people is a good thing.

    Unpopular magic opinions.

One of the first presentations of the cups and balls I ever saw was by the late Frank Garcia. It was also one of the most entertaining I have ever seen.
