The Dover books you have are enough for now, learn what is in them before you worry about getting more. The Dover books are reprints of old books and are therefore less expensive than the newer more modern titles. What you have is a good start and contains a large amount of good information...

I agree with everything above and I think the correct answer is 'both'. However I appreciate the view of those who strive to see what they can do without gimmicks simply because they choose to. Strangely the sometimes seems to be backlash from either side!

I second the suggestion on rubber band magic as it works well as an instant download, though I would suggest getting some Elastraflex coated bands. Joe Rindfleisch's Rainbow Rubber Bands are what I have, but I imagine they are available without his branding. They won't matter for all effects...
