    Bottom Deal -

If you are having trouble with the buckle, just practice that and don't worry about the bottom deal. Find a packet trick and learn to buckle with just 4 cards, or forget the trick part and just learn the buckle with the 4 card packet anyway. Then, when using the whole deck, try holding the...

    How to practice

I also enjoy practice routines. Sometimes it is the working part of an effect, other times it is just repetitions of a series of moves. That one Gabriel mentions from RRtCM looks good, I'll have to pull out my copy. Glad to see you got Card College. It's a great reference. A deck of slicker...

    How often are you fooled?

I am mostly into cards and have a large library of card magic books and videos and therefore I am only occasionally fooled by card effects, but it can happen. Coin magic and mentalism have a much higher fool rate for me and that's one reason I enjoy watching that kind of material even though...

I remember the trailer but not the name...

There was a DVD released a number of years ago and I can only recall the trailer. The basic idea as I remember it was to flick a single card into a deck or spread to find the selected card etc. There were a number of different versions of that shown and I also recall a couple of Asian...

    Looking to start mentalism

As far as I can tell, this is available as an e-book and is also included in the physical copy of the compilation "THE ARTFUL MENTALISM OF BOB CASSIDY, VOL. 2: FUNDAMENTALS". He has a number of similarly titled publications, please correct me if I'm wrong.

    Feeling dispondant

For me the closest thing to guitar playing would be culling. I use 'David's Cull', it is more guitar like, but Roadrunner is good too. But first, pick up Card College if you can. It has more modern methods, techniques and instructions. This by itself should help. At our age there is no time...

    Mnemonica?

There are a number of different systems in addition to Si Stebbins and Mnemonica. Look around, you'll probably find something you like. https://www.theory11.com/forums/threads/what-can-i-do-with-mnemonica.56666/#/post-496881 and others.

    Dealing with a new deck

I break in my decks for just the reasons you mention. I don't find it's worth it to open a new deck in performance. Kudos to those who take the time to learn to work with newly opened decks.

    Beginner Question On Bottom Deal

Try holding the deck at the ends (Biddle grip) with your right hand while you try to buckle the cards. Once you get the idea go back to doing it one handed. The placement of your left thumb in critical as it is what you are pressing against when you buckle.

    Beginner Question On Bottom Deal

Try different cards. If they are old it can be hard. Try the buckle with just 2 or 3 cards in your deck.

    Cards

I second the card clip suggestion, but also the get a new deck suggestion. Card magic is indeed more expensive than coin magic. The coin gimmicks can be a bit pricey, but coins certainly last longer. I generally have a few different types of decks I' m using and if I'm practicing as much as I...

    Make a coin gripper!!

Go to your local coin show and buy some uncirculated coins from the dealers. Some come out better than others, but you can get half dollars with nice sharp edges if you look.

What cards are traditionally cut with a smooth finish

The 605s actually came traditionally cut. And it seems his shipping rates are based on you buy only 1, 6, or 12 decks.
