    Halloween is coming...

It is 56 days until Halloween. That might seem far off for some but for me its all too close because I have so much to do! We usually do a get together at our decorated house, we're keeping it small this year because we recently moved but there will still be friends. We are doing a Hogwarts...

    Mentalism effect name???

Bummer, after watching the video I realize I misremembered the trick after watching it from another of his videos. I originally was thinking it was more of a triumph effect. I am now not sure of where else you can learn something similar.

    Mentalism effect name???

I think you can learn it from buying one of his hats. See his instagram where he is selling his new hats with a trick...you can see on the inside of the hat has the same/similar setup; https://www.instagram.com/p/Bm02yPqHgrW/?taken-by=chrisramsay52 I mean there is other places to learn it too...

    Book Recommendations

I was also thinking of The Art of Astonishment even though its not as recent as past 5 years. Each book is over 50 bucks but well worth it. It has more than just cards but still plenty of card stuff. I picked it up several months ago and consider it my best purchase to date.

I kinda thought a magic hat was like a change bag. I am sure there are more ways to gaff one though...

    Magic theory

I am surprised that for the most part those books mentioned are pretty affordable, as in under 50 bucks each and some under 20. Gives me hope for adding to my bookshelf. Maximum Entertainment and Strong Magic have been on my wish list for months now. Hoping to add at least one of them to my...

    Exposing Magic

Christopher T misspelled a persons name but we understand his point because of context. With this being a point of contention of yours I am reluctant to try to continue conversing since it seems that understanding others points as they intend them to be isn't your goal here. I dunno if you are...

    Exposing Magic

To start you should re-read your link, here is an excerpt; Technically speaking, magic tricks aren't copyrightable. In a ruling by a Nevada federal court on Thursday, U.S. District Judge James Mahan states that explicitly. What is protectable under copyright law is pantomimes, the art of...

    Looking trick up on youtube

I am pretty new to magic so my tricks are not my own. I do personalize them but feel they are not where I want them to be at yet. I sometimes do the Dunbury Mystery and I reference The Matrix at the end saying something about a glitch in the matrix (movie with Keanu Reeves...not a coin...

    Looking trick up on youtube

My invisible deck is sealed shut with tape and the words "your card" written on it. Sometimes I just set it out and wait for someone to ask about it but usually it's just an out for me. I would also suggest not saying the name of a trick you are doing / have done unless you rename it. Pretty...

    Buying tricks / effects

There are plenty of sites that will sell you tricks and I can list a few in a minute but first a warning; these sites will say things like "best trick ever!" "a must have for any working magician" "this will fool you!" "revolutionary new technique" and so on but the tricks and routines rarely...

What's a trick you hate doing but your audience loves?

Card Warp. I really don't hate doing the trick I am really just suprised at the good reactions it gets. Echoing others here though, I dislike spongeballs. I haven't picked up my spongeballs in a while and don't see it in my repetior any time soon.

    How to approach potential spectators

This is great, making connections benefits you no matter what. In addition to what Christopher said it also gets the people on your side before you perform, they know you as a bit as person first then someone who might entertain them. Having a conversation also gives you more to go off of in...

    How to approach potential spectators

I think you summed it up pretty well with your last sentence. One of the worst examples in my opinion is when he was told "no" by two women standing on the sidewalk and he asked them to "give him three reasons why". I was really put off by this and I imagine the women he asked were put off...

    How to approach potential spectators

I've had some success using the methods Michael Obrien discusses in his link above. Specifically doing flourishy type stuff and finding interested people. In public sometimes I perform magic for some of my friends who are into it and if I notice other people watching I approach them later if...
