    Comprehension of Magic Book help

Card College teaches the sleights and then several effects that use the sleights. Get and work through through the first two volumes. There is a lot of material to perform in those volumes. After that, if you like the style, pick up the next three volumes. If you want stuff to perform sooner...

    Trading Magic?

Check out Surplus Magic Exchange on Facebook. People buy, sell and trade there. There are also for sale sections on the Magic Cafe (I think you need to have a certain amount of posts for those sections to be visible). Since we don’t permit selling or trading on the forums (except listing stuff...

Magic for kids. I need a little help.

Insulting other members is not productive and does nothing to change people’s minds. All it accomplishes is to diminish the weight given to anything you subsequently say in your post. Please act respectfully to others.

Magic for kids. I need a little help.

I agree with the recommendations for Mark Wilson. Everything you ever could want to know. The Fantasma kits are cheap junk, but a decent price for a lot of stuff. If the kid is serious, I'd recommend the following list of props: 1 Set 2 inch Goshman Super Soft sponge balls (around $3) 25...

    52 vs 9ofC

From the sound of it, both clubs are pure hype designed for self promotion of those that formed it. If you can find out about it on the internet, it isn't secret. Here is the key to find out if you are part of a truly secret magic club... you know the Denny's late night menu by heart. I've...

    How long does it take...

I learned very early on that you need to be patient with new products and wait for the reviews rather than buying the hype. A little research goes a long way. I actually like do it yourself projects... as long as I know what I'm getting into. Part of the reason that I like books. You spend...

    Comprehension of Magic Book help

It is a series of five books. The first two were written as a set and intended to be a complete course. But then came the next three. There are great step-by step illustrations, clear writing (using consistent terminology) and performance pointers along with a lot of great effects.

    Theory 11 or Ellusionist?

I buy from a variety of magic websites. What I buy depends on the product, not the company. If a company has a product I like and that I will use in performance, I'll buy it. Unfortunately, neither Theory 11 or Ellusionist carries a lot of books and that is where most of my magic budget is spent.

    Comprehension of Magic Book help

Those books are classics but they are difficult to work through and understand. Additionally, there are some errors and some techniques which have since been improved. That is one of the reasons that I recommend Card College because that series is easier to work through. R. Paul Wilson has a...

    Deck Switching

My initial reaction is that you don't want to switch to the shuffled and then back to the original deck order. You are repeating the effect when your audience is burning you. @Maaz Hasan is right. For this, you want to use a gimmicked deck switch. The problem is that the routine is not...

    Deck Switching

Agreed. A lot of factors will dictate which switch works best. Are you sitting or standing? Do you have a table? Are you in front of your spectators or surrounded? Are you switching a cased deck or lose cards? Is it during a routine or between routines? Also, think about whether a deck...

    1st gig help

@Casey Rudd's post is great advice. I'd add couple of suggestions from Royal Road: Poker Player's Picnic, Designed for Laughter, Piano Card Trick, Do as I Do, Intuition with Cards and Ewephindit. All easy to learn and to perform. If you have or can get sponge balls, a really simple routine...

    1st gig help

A couple of questions.... 1. When is the party? 2. Can you provide more detail about the party and how you are going to perform? You mentioned walk around... what are people going to be doing while you are walking around? How many people? Where will the party be held (restaurant, house...

    Deck Switching

It is an amazing book BUT I didn’t realize it is out of print. For $55 it was worth it. For $5,001 as it is listed on Amazon... uh... no. My second book recommendation is Tamariz’s Five Points in Magic which has his deck switch and a whole lot more about the theory of performing. It’s a mere...
