    Royal Road to Card Magic

The top palm, bottom palm, some top changes and a couple of bottom deals are in Expert Card Technique. The top change and top palm are also in Royal Road. That said, I love the Card College series. The descriptions are good and there are drawings for each step. Top Change is Volume 1, Top...

How would you do this mentalism trick?

We don't expose methods on the forums. Multiple answers can easily be found in Anneman's Practical Mental Magic or in Corindina's Thirteen Steps to Mentalism.

Are Magicians more into just buying downloads and gimmicks these days vs. reading literature?

I think that libraries have a different problem. Young people (under 30) just don’t use them. My sense is that is because they don’t like to read. Even I (over 30 by a little bit) don’t use them. Why? Because I just buy the book. I’m not talking about magic books - but regular books (currently...

    New Magic

Actually, the Behr (named after Dennis Behr) Archive is now conjuringarchive.com. Also, check out magipedia (which is connected with Genii magazine), the Magic Cafe (there are some great posts on history of effects), the Genii Forums (again, some great posts) and...

Are Magicians more into just buying downloads and gimmicks these days vs. reading literature?

Yes, a video would benefit both a visual and audio learner. This is a problem with the VARK model.... by explaining everything, it explains nothing. I think the pushback that @ChristopherT and I expressing is more related to people who say, "I can't read books, I'm a visual learner." To...

Are Magicians more into just buying downloads and gimmicks these days vs. reading literature?

I think that @ChristopherT and my objection is to the use of the term "visual learner." The term is a phrase art that has its origins in Neil Fleming's VARK models of learning. Although that theory has generally been dismissed as being overly broad and unhelpful, anyone using that terminology...

Are Magicians more into just buying downloads and gimmicks these days vs. reading literature?

Yes and no. A visual learner can and does learn very effectively from books. There are two way this happen. The first is remembering the actual words on the page. The second is the ability to visualize what is being described. This is easier in fiction or even non-fiction than magic...

Best street magic product for around 35$

Paul Harris's Art of Astonishment, Volume 1. Great book. Great effects. Great value, less than $1 per effect because there are around 50 effects for $35.

    Why Card Magic?

Or to put it in economic terms, there are not significant barriers to entry in terms of the cost of props and the availability of knowledge. Pete Biro’s book The Real Secrets of the Chinese Linking Rings has a ton of material. Levant’s DVD set also is amazing. Otherwise, you are right, you...

    Using egg skin

The prop is around $20 at the various magic websites. The earliest I can find the effect in print is in T. Nelson Downs's "The Art of Magic" (1909) p. 298. There are instruction for how to make the egg skin but I would drain the yolk and white out before rather than after. Also, Downs...

Cards that buckle/How to unbuckle cards

It's not the heat, its the humidity (or lack thereof). More specifically, the differential in the humidity of the card stock between the edges of the cards and the middle of the cards. That is caused by moisture either entering or leaving the edges of the cards as a result of the environment...

    Using egg skin

It should work dry. The alcohol is just for storage. The old method was to store it in talcum powder. The alcohol keeps mold from growing on it. I would dry it off, use it and then return it to the alcohol. I'm surprised it didn't come with instructions.

    Blank deck question

I have seen individual cards that are like that in gaff decks (maybe the four aces) but I haven't seen a full deck like that. Is this something you have seen or remember or something that you think would be great to use in an effect but have never seen or heard of?
