Spot on. Most of the time when Im performing card magic Ill place the cards on the table or tell the spectators to hold them awhile while im talking or doing something else. I try to not touch the cards constantly and to not look like such an expert with them.

Never said I want to convince everybody. Besides,most card magicians here(i dont know about the OP) drown their performances in flourishes or absolutely love to show off. When laymen see that they think "well if he can do that he can do anything(with cards)" So they want to see something more...

I have started to think and notice that people always want to shuffle or put the card in themselves when,obviously,its a card trick. Or that these stories about "hecklers" involve someone taking ones cards away. Anything thing else they are totally willing to see..(hintity hint,hint)

On these forums,close-up magic seems to be the most popular. And its the most(easiest) accesible. But being on a stage and letting the audience come to you,is a completely different experience and greatly enjoyable. Ive performed in a few school plays and the stage is just wonderful.

For card handling I got a basic MAGIC!! book at a store years ago and nothing else. And I still learned everything from the trilogy perfectly..hmm. I love using these tricks because when I do use a deck of cards,i love to show people how much spectacle is in sleight of hand,but then bowl them...

Jesus..he means what can you do right then and there.With things that are in that situation. And yeah,anything can be a prop,thats a no-brainer.A gimmick is hard to make on the spot with what you have laying around.

When did I once say that you have to do magic for them? I was just reinstating his question because some people were not answering it under the questions conditions. Geez man,i honestly think you cant read. Just because you dont have these props doesnt mean you cant perform magic or that one...
