New to this and looking for advice

Amazon has "Greatest" "Latest" and "More" Magic for around $45 for all three books. Great reads. If you like Hoffman, you would love John Northern Hilliard's Greater Magic.... talk about a tome.

    Tutorial..

No misdirection needed. Square the deck, lift the left long edge up so the deck is vertical and held in end grip by the fingertips of your right hand. Scratch your nose (or your ear, or your head or make a gesture) with your left hand and bring your hands together. Return the deck to dealing...

    Side Strippers?

You are correct in that they are called "End Strippers" and are generally custom made. The inexpensive option to make your own is HERE and the expensive option to make your own is HERE. You may be able to find some guys that will custom make the decks for you, but they aren't mass produced...

Start with Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic. Then get Jim Steinmeyer's book Conjuring Anthology. Those should give you a great understanding of the role of gimmicks and fakes in magic.

some help for my story about a magician

The best evidence that a well presented illusion of danger is more powerful than actual danger. The typical teleportation device involves the magician's assistant or the magician getting into a box of some sort, having something happen to the person in the box and then having the person in the...

Who invented this move.. ? :)

The bottom line is that if you did not invent it, it is not yours to teach without permission. There are a lot of moves that are more than 25 years old that I don't think should be taught without permission. The larger issue here is that I suspect that the original poster did not learn...

    Forcing a Celebrity

@Al e Cat Dabra I didn't recmmend Amaze Box. My method was pretty simple and only required a sharpie, slips of paper and a regular cldar plastic bag. Alternatively, you could easily gimmick a shoe box. You could even have every member of the audience write a name down on a piece of paper...

Who invented this move.. ? :)

Those moves are not standard moves in magic. Shapshifter appeared in a magic magazine, Marc's book DeSouza's Deceptions and on a video put out by Ellusionist. You should not teach that move without permission. Send me a PM if you are interested in reaching Marc and I can send you his...

Books regarding the theory/mentality of creating magic

Larry Haas' book Transformations: Creating Magic Out of Tricks. It doesn't tell you how to create methods but tell you how to take a trick and turn it into a performance piece.

Patter that has little to do with the trick

I have lots of presentation ideas looking for effects and lots of effects looking for presentation ideas. I think that answers your question.

Best MisDirection Tools, Tips, and Tricks?

First, focus on entertaining, not fooling them. Second, misdirection is more than shouting "Hey, look at that squirrel!" Misdirection is the wrong term. As Tommy Wonder said, we should think about direction of the audience's attention. That sort of direction should be built into the...

    Card College, RealityOne was right!

Justin: I'm glad your enjoying and learning from Card College. The more you watch / read Roberto Giobbi's work, the more you understand the thinking behind the performance of card magic. The Card College series (including Light, Lighter and Lightest) are amazing. The DVD really is like...

New to card Magic - Learn all use some?

The sleights used depend on the requirements for the effect and the design of the presentation. After a spectator selects and returns a card, they usually will be looking at your hands. If you do a control at that time, they will see you did "something." By waiting, you provide some time...

    Some questions

I have a lot of lists and a lot of notes. It really isn't that organized. Like @Justin.Morris I've forgotten a lot more stuff than I currently know and very much rely on my library for how to do effects. I do have the scripts I use for performance written out on my computer. I read books a...

    The Biddle Magic

I agree with Maaz - slow it down. Also the overhand shuffle needs work to be a little neater. I'm not a big fan of snapping - how does that make the card disappear? Other than that it was a good performance.

    Name this Trick?

Like this? It is referred to as a "production." Jeff McBride's Art of Card Manipulation DVDs are the best resource for learning this sort of stuff.
