What decks have you been using lately?

I think I am in LOVE with the Artifice V2 Blue cards. Wow...insane design, nice border, and just screams class. One downfall is these cards are EXTREMELY slippery and need broken in a bit to slow them down. They fan and farrow awesome as well. These are what I am currently using this week.

Over coming the fear of performing in public.

For me it was much easier for me to take 3 effects that I knew were practically self working, that I knew couldn't be messed up. I knew the magic was going to happen and I didn't have to worry about sleights. This took a huge load off my shoulders as far as stress, shaking and such. Now all I...

Garrett Thomas lecture last night in Ohio

Last night I attended Garrett Thomas's lecture in Akron, Ohio. It was OUTSTANDING and a ton of fun jamming and hanging out together afterwards. His coin stuff has always been phenomenal, but he doesn't do that much anymore in his lectures because he said most people aren't going to perform it...

    Magic as a Career

Great post Calvin. You and I think along the same lines and that is exactly the way I look at it. I'm not saying that is the "Right" way to go at it but its what works best for us and takes care of our family needs as well. Health Insurance paid by my employer came in pretty darn handy when my...

    Magic as a Career

All valid points. Do you feel that you could still run your business and give it the time, drive and dedication that you do now if you had the demands of a family and playing the role of dad and husband? That might be difficult for you to answer. Not just financially (sounds like you are okay...

    Deal at Penguin

They do that deal every year Jacob...it is nice if you can definitely find 5 titles you like. If you can only find 2 or 3 then it doesn't really pay off as much.

    Magic as a Career

Benji, can I please pry into your life just a tad to see how realistic your case / situation is? Please do not think I'm attacking you because I have all the respect in the world for you. I'm guessing you don't have a wife and kids with braces to pay for, house payment (not rent), 2 car...

    Magic as a Career

Most performers I know locally around my area are not making it without a spouse also having an income. A good health insurance plan costs a lot of money but is well worth it when you have medical bills adding up. Kids are not cheap and a lot of artists will tell you that to make money you need...

    Where's your creativity?

I somewhat agree with Jeff Prace on this one as well. Many of the full time workers may WANT to be creative and create something completely original, but most full time working professionals are very busy. Most of their day is consumed by marketing, phone calls, emails, packing up a show...

    Where's your creativity?

My last bit of creativity was just a week ago. I used a combination of two effects to make them both even stronger. I took the classic scotch and soda coin routine and added the "coin deck" into the routine which allows for the spectator to make the magic happen. It also plays well for two...

Jason England VS. Lennart Green ?

Perhaps he meant in means of technical skill and raw sleight of hand or maybe I'm way off and he meant entertainment value. Either way I with you on this visual. I don't think you can really compare magicians head to head in categories because everyone is vastly different.

Jason England VS. Lennart Green ?

I have never personally watched Jason, but I'm assuming they have two totally different presentational styles. Lennart's performance to a layman and magician looks like he has absolutely no idea what he is doing and the way he handles the cards haphazardly on purpose destroys everyone because he...
