Never say "You're wrong." - Dale Carnegie

I'm glad many of you took the time to think and respond to the post. I will post more of the information from McCabe as well as a few of mine own thoughts interwoven. Many magicians choose to use script 1 because..."they like to feel superior to their audiences." This is NOT a good way to win...

Never say "You're wrong." - Dale Carnegie

This material came from Scripting Magic pg. 175-178 by Pete McCabe Read both of these mini scripts and put yourself in place of the spectator. How do you feel? Why is the second better? Why then do many many magicians use number 1? Let's hear your thoughts and then I'll chime in later with...

    Cool thanks for sharing.

    Little man

Fellas, I hate to burst your bubble and no disrespect to Mr. Harris but Little Man "when works" looks very cool. However, I sat in the front row during a convention contest and watched a magician embarrass himself trying to get it to work and it wouldn't do what it was supposed to. For $300 that...

    Good walk around effects

Do you normally steal the deck from your back pocket when the left hand drops back or how do you do it surrounded? I'm just curious.

Best camera for small/ no money?

Welcome to the Theory 11 my man. Read the rules and enjoy your stay. There is a ton of knowledge and experience on these boards. Don't be afraid to ask questions.

    Next Effect?

Craig, I believe that is why Blake and Calen were hired by Chris Kenner. To be on the creative team. As far as I have heard, that is why Dan Harlan was hired back in the 80's or 90's. Rumor has it that he snorted all of his money though. That could be hearsay or the truth...not sure.

    Good walk around effects

Walk around magic can be very very fun and rewarding providing you put in the time to develop your sets and have great pocket management. You need about 3 sets of 3 effects in which all of them have instant reset where you do not need to run for cover or go hide in a corner. I currently use...

    Muscle Pass

I have tried to learn it for a year and still can't get much height out of it. Hopefully you have better luck than I did. I'd go for the DVD or find someone who can teach you in person or via a video chat possibly to see the correct positioning.

Best camera for small/ no money?

Sony handy cams are cheap and decent. The only thing I don't like about mine is the mic pics up wind outdoors and when you are in dimly lit rooms the picture is grainy.

Magic Related Pranks and Practical Jokes

Draven, I've actually heard of that one before as well. Supposedly it is hilarious. I may have to try that one at my brother's house sometime that has a finished basement with a bar. And yes...the Tossed Out Deck routine was insanely funny. That poor guy still doesn't know how we pulled it off...

    everyday objects help

Chris, I hear what you are saying. I'm not saying that magicians cannot get "good / proficient" on their own. I'm just saying that Yes, some people have mentors and they do give "homework" to practice the 3-4 sleights or effects and come back next time to show the progress. This is exactly how I...

Big Ass Box of Magic Question...

Ha ha. Good morning boys. I woke up to see that you guys actually got my hotel sarcasm, "Thanks and enjoy your stay here at Theory11." Wow..Casey...didn't realize you had some issues with the customer service and Slyder as well. It has been a long time since I've ordered anything from Jay and...

Big Ass Box of Magic Question...

Hey Fellas, Even though I had not purchased one of the boxes I understand the anger, frustration, etc. That is why I have allowed people to vent and talk to others who have felt cheated. I understand that "some" people enjoyed their box and got the majority of what was advertised and I also...

Evanesce // New Impromptu Coin Vanish + more

Thanks for posting this. I am not a coin worker at all and loved it. The only thing I noticed was the jump of the hands as well but other than that it looks great and should fry a layman.

    everyday objects help

Call Craig Crazy but he is correct in two aspects. I own the Now you See it, Now you Don't Books and they are phenomenal at teaching the basic sleight of hand. They are not expensive and have easy to follow drawings. Well worth purchasing. As far as the student / mentor relationship...that is...

Magic Related Pranks and Practical Jokes

A few months ago a buddy of mine and another accomplice pulled off a great effect at our IBM ring just to see how long it took for another member to grab the deck and inspect it. Basically we did a Tossed Out Deck routine with a non gimmicked standard straight deck. The three of us had agreed...

    Help, Missing Foundations

I just finished reading Hiding the Elephant and The Magician and the Cardsharp which have been very valuable in teaching me some magic history and a wonderful story of Dai Vernon. I recommend both! They do not teach you any effects but give you more of a background history lesson.

    Magic Scholarship

I think it is a great idea to get some books into the hands of young magicians, however, what happens when or if that young magician decides magic is not their cup of tea? Are these books now wasted? Should they get sent back so that another magician can have them? I see this all of the time in...

Erdnase Stock Shuffling/ Revelations vs. Annotated

My mentor has both of those books, unfortunately I have not read them so I am unable to tell you which is a better purchase. Can you find either in used copies? There are many second hand books shops online that sell books for about a 1/4th of the cost as new.
