    HL Hating on TheCuso

Performance is an issue within ALL aspects of card manipulation. Do you perform live shows? I've found from experience that just as few "flourishers" perform as "XCMers". So you've really got no moral high ground there. In any case, to sum up this entire thread: Waaaaah! Waaaah!

What's your favorite effect that you perform the most?

Nope, you misread my post. I wasn't talking about the word "favourite". Favorite, Favourite, same thing. You misspelled one of your supposedly favourite tricks.

    Psychological Subtleties

A lot of PS1 is based on the topic of exactly what the name suggests - psychology and suggestion. Not all of it does, of course, and not all of the series does - more importantly, though, the emphasis is quite simply on subtleties - it is not for the beginner but rather to improve the...

    Losing Control - Lee Asher

Anything in particular causing you to dig up a two year old thread for that? :P

What does your deck say about you?

Haha. Seeing as SOMEONE lives in a hole and hasn't been to a real city in months, I think you might be right, Tumbleweed!

Dig it - Card Flourish Tutorial

Err... It's basically three twirls and a toss... I doubt anyone will have created this exact thing before, but yeah. The concept is very common.

    The experience of mentalism

I think one of the key skills a mentalist must have (magicians must have this skill too, but it's more important in my opinion for mentalists) is observation. It's too easy to walk to a spectator, present a card trick, and talk to your deck. In other words - you may talk to your spectator, but...

Smoke & Mirrors: Luxury Edition is Coming This Weekend!

I think the bottom line is to accept advice but take everything with a grain of salt. Here in the forums, I've seen some terrible, terrible advice. I've also seen some brilliant advice that goes unnoticed. As with anything, make the decision for yourself. It's a public forum, and therefore...

    Help in purchase?

That's true, sorry I overlooked that. I definitely understand the problem with having to choose between several tempting options! Well, in brief: I feel that the D&D style of magic leaves too little room for proper presentation, and due to their emphasis on quick tricks, have little chance of...

Any good fishing methods for cards?

Have a look at Derren Brown's effect "Smoke"... He uses several stages of fishing to determine a card thought of. Admittedly, it's under specific circumstances, but it's an interesting reference point.

What does your deck say about you?

The number of people who have completely missed the point (or unwilling to think) seems to be steadily increasing. Congratulations, you have a favourite deck? Have a cookie. Leave this topic for people who have the capacity to think for themselves.

    Help in purchase?

Personally, I'll just say that I'm not at all a fan of D&D magic. In my opinion, it's mostly visual eye candy created by magicians for magicians. I dislike their construction of magic, and personally feel that you can do a LOT better.

    Neuro-Linguistic Programming - NLP

Bingo, Jon. Well said. Rapport is a very undervalued and understudied aspect of magic and mentalism. Know what you're studying - NLP will not help you to influence people or suggest someone select the queen of diamonds. It's value in magic is rapport. If you get rapport, your performances will...
