    Being Safe vs. Being Bold

You have to realize that different people see different situations as 'safe' and 'ballsy'. A good example would be in the moves magicians use. I palm all the time. I use three or four different palms (classic, tenkai, a lateral palm, and the gamblers cop) in my routines. They're all used for...

    Good rubber band magic...

Missing link is a great piece of magic. You have two rubber bands, one large and one small, and you link them. Completely impromptu (sleight of hand required) and plays well for laymen. Linx is angle sensitive, but that can be gotten around. It's almost like Jacob's Ladder by Daniel Garcia...

    "Move Monkey"? I think not.

Daniel Garcia said something, that I think applies, when talking about Jacob's Ladder on Symphony. Basically there are situations where the trick won't work (a lot of tricks/moves are like this) and people were asking him "Danny, I want to do this trick but don't have the right conditions, how...

    How often do you perform?

I have a few places I perform, mostly free and volunteer. Getting experience and hope to have paid gigs within the year. I'm not sure if I'm going to try to do regular gigs at the same place (restaurant, bar...) or just sell myself to individual occasions and private parties.

    Daniel Madison's TK effects

Last I heard of the project was over a year ago, and it was 'coming soon'...never released (to my knowledge).

    Rubberband routine?

I don't use this, but I can totally see grown men being un-impressed by the souvenir star. If my audience has children (or if I'm feeling puckish) I start with Jumping rubber band. I usually follow with my version of Crazy Man's Handcuffs and will end with rubber band through hand (at least...

    Entertainment...

Some of the best magicians are hobbyist and we've all seen professional (semi-pro's too) that are horrible magicians. They can market themselves well, but are dreadful, bland, and un-entertaining. While hobbyist aren't all bad, a good amount of them don't perform. With that said a lot of...

    Entertainment...

We missed the ship when magician's decided a performing art could be a good hobby. I've got nothing against hobbyist, but many of them are move-monkeys. Magic has also become very easy to learn without the aid of a professional. You buy a dvd or book and can learn magic. The problem is you're...

How many tricks should I start with?

Advice from some Pro's I'd say learn at your own pace. I'd pick a few routines that you like and learn them well. Stick to them and perform them, even create new presentations for the effects. After you figure out what effects you enjoy performing the most you can learn some new ones.

    Magic or trickery?

For starters, I might not have clarified, I don't perform mentalism. I studied it for a time, but do not perform it. It's not my style, even though I'm leaving the future open to it if possible. I also never said that cards should Never be used. I said they should be seldom used, if you want...

    Book Problem

International forums, he was just wondering if it was your first language. What other books have you read and comprehended? I don't have the paper engine so I can't help translate, but maybe the writing style just doesn't compute in your brain. I can't read some fiction because of the way...

    Rubik Notes Review

Which is the difference between showing off and performing magic. I could solve a cube eyes open and people would go 'wow, look what that guy can do!' I could also juggle, eat fire, or ride a unicycle. Hell, why not do all three at once!?! I don't display skill for the sake of displaying skill...

    Magic or trickery?

So you're saying a book seems less set-up than a deck of cards, because you can't shuffle a book? or because books get in the way of mind reading? (first prop to come to mind) True mind reading would go like 'Think of anything in the world, a memory, an object, a color.' and then you would say...

    Magic or trickery?

I'd like to see the script for a mentalism based story trick (Sam the Bellhop-esk). Why would you turn one into the other, they're different for a reason. Cards should seldom show up in mentalism. There are many other props you could use to do second sight or mind reading, why playing cards...

    Rubik Notes Review

The only thing I'm going to say is that the bonus was worth more than the rest of the PDF. You put a mixed cube into a paper lunch bag and pull it out solved. Tear the bag up, hand the cube out. Edit:: The notes on solving are to correlate with the DVD Mark Elsdon put out, Rubik's Remembered...

    Rubik Notes Review

Rubik Notes by Mark Elsdon Purchased from www.mindlapse.net What is it? The Notes contain Mark’s full solution for Rubik’s Cube and are fully colour-illustrated to make learning as direct as possible. The Notes also contain three fantastic new presentations which turn solving the Cube...

    Gimmicks are WRONG?

If you're not in politics, does political correctness even matter? Curiosity. I use gimmicks. I use sleight of hand. My audience loves to be entertained.

    Fusion Bands: Linking Rubberbands

While your handling is smooth and different,SLR has been out for a while. I really like the first, visual phase of the routine, it looks beautiful. Good luck with this, as you've got me fooled on the first part.

    High School Stage Show

High School is somewhere between 13-18 depending on which state and probably a half-dozen other reasons. @OP:This advice may or may not be things you already know, but seeing as how I was in high school not too long ago (4 years) and can look back and laugh at what high school is I'm going to...
