    Don't tell stupid people!

I agree with Draven on this as well.

    The Advancement of Technology...

Sleights will be just as astonishing if done with "real world" objects like cards rather than scientific tools. If you don't believe me, go to someone's house....borrow 3 opaque cups out of their cabinet...roll up some tiny paper balls and perform a cups and balls routine. Because it was a...

    Don't tell stupid people!

Crimson, I understand your feelings. Please keep in mind though, that many people in society are brothers, sisters, parents and friends of magicians. Many times these are the people who are their trusted friend who is "in the know" so to speak and they know the inner workings of how effects...

    A big problem..

Shades, please do not twist my words. I'm not saying that there isn't future in magic. I'm saying it is a difficult road to head down to provide for family, make house and car payments, insurance, etc. It can be done, but in most situations as Reality One has pointed out as well, most magicians...

    A big problem..

Hey Shades, As a parent myself, I can somewhat understand where they are coming from. They want to try to put you on a path that will allow you to be successful in life and set you up for a good future. I know you do not want to hear it, but Magic by itself is not normally going to support you...

    Stay strong Japan.

I can see that this thread has run its course and is continually getting derailed by negative members so with that being said....

    Strong Magic by Darwin Ortiz

Enzo...by no means do I mean any disrespect here, but do you do any research at all on things yourself or do you just post the question here and expect everyone to answer? With that being said it is an essential book in any magician's collection and is one of my top 3 favorites. It will change...

That was hilarious saborfang. You are definitely dating yourself on that one buddy. I remember watching that in grade school.

Where did you learn your magic?

If another magician asks me where I learn most of my magic I would tell them it is a wide variety of resources. Books, Dvds, my local club, lecture notes, jam sessions with other magicians and mostly me mentor who I pay for lessons hourly. I really never have laymen asks "where" I learned...

    Would you buy this?

I would not buy these only because I perform with standard bicycles only. I like your creativity though.

    Nail Under The Cups

There are many versions of this as Draven has mentioned and even though the say the are not dangerous...there is definitely a degree of danger present. Anything can and will go wrong with this routine if you do not have a back up plan to your method. You could injure yourself or the spectator if...

    Those reactions, what are those?

Reactions come in all shapes and forms. A spectator quietly shaking his head in amazement as he walks away in astonishment to me is just as good as a scream. At the end of the day you need to ask yourself, "Did I make a positive impression on my spectator today? Were you able to brighten their...

    Performance Style

I have always had success with posing the effect as mere entertainment and everyone is having a good time. Never make it a challenge or you are bound to get a heckler. Just this past weekend I was out filming street magic with a professional and in one of the last performances a heckler started...

    Illusionist Scene

You need to look at a lot of Rick Merril's work. He does a lot of sleeving and changes and it is some of the best magic I have seen.

    Rainbow - Ace Of Spades - V6 Proposal :)

I like it...maybe the backs could be like a Metallic Gold. Almost like the Notre Dame football team's gold helmets.

    Yet Another Camera Thread

To add to Andrew's point, I used a $250 Sony Handycam this past weekend shooting some raw street footage and an external mic would have been beneficial. You do not realize how much wind is picked up on some of these cams.

Whats your go to effect, when put on the spot?

If I am confronted without props or set up and have no cards on me I go straight to "Ring Thing" by Garrett Thomas. Moral of the story: "Always have at least 3 go to effects on you and some business cards." This allows you to do a short set at any given moment and then hand our cards for...

    Sharpies used by magicians.

I believe they are the Sherpa covers that go over sharpies. They run about $30.00 and are very classy. You just pop a new sharpie inside the cover and away you go. They come in many different color schemes. I almost bought one at Magi Fest but decided I didn't "have" to have it. Ha Ha...

    Magic in The Mall

Nice reactions. CMH needs some work with the handling. It needs to be a lot smoother and the move happens on a pull back beat. The rubber bands should be at the finger tips up by the nail of the finger at the start and finish. Great to see people out performing.
