How can I get over nervousness?

Start your routines off with a self working trick. Something that is next to impossible to mess up, but still grabs your spectators. Their reactions will start to calm your nerves. The more you perform, the easier it gets, and you can move out of self-working tricks(if you want to that...

t11 special edition SNC - 24 Hour Video Challenge + Winner

I would be able to film/edit and upload another...if I didn't have work in an hour. Which is why I did mine last night instead of this morning.

t11 special edition SNC - 24 Hour Video Challenge + Winner

All shot and edited since I got home...about 1am...so 2 and a half hours of work. The words are in the info if you can't read some of them (try full screen?). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzGZMQiNCW4 Good luck to everyone.

    Re-sealing a deck?

I second Daniel Madison's method. It's pretty clever. Depending on what you want to do will make a difference in the limitations of what you can do. If you want a card to appear inside a box that's sealed or if you want a torn corner to penetrate the cellophane...etc. Carefully...

    Why magic?

Why Magic? Good question. It's probably some psychological theory dealing with childhood and being raised...and some other science-like mumbo-jumbo...I'm gonna guess that the 'Worlds Greatest Magic' shows started it all... Maybe the rest of the questions answers will bring light into Why...

    Recycling Cards: Ideas

Everyone has pretty much said the best reasons. I do a lot of the same. I do enjoy forcing from a new deck and leaving the old card behind at my friends house...'hmm...I don't know where it went, good luck finding it.' Almost like a running joke, every once in a while I do it (he's also a...

October 2008 :: Applying Your Skills

I would say figuring things out would be the greatest help from magic. I was never really shy, so the social aspect of magic came naturally. But through my two obsessions, magic and puzzles of various kinds, I've learned new ways to approach problems in the real world. When asked how to...

    Dumb Questions

But saying 'hey there is a meteor shower' and there not being one...wouldn't seem natural-and i would think you did it to make me look away so you could do something...the problem being, I'm a magician and would automatically catch what you were doing-and I want to say most of my spectators...

    Classic Force Help

Card College 1 has a lot of good material on the Classic Force. It has a lot of overlooked, but very useful, sleights in it also. But yeah, learn an impromptu card trick...or if you do an ACR...but always try to classic force a card. And if you get it successfully you can do a quick mind...

    d+M Trilogy: Where to start?

I agree with sinful. There are a ton of effects, sleights and applications. And almost everything is adaptable. You should read the descriptions of the sleights in three and see if it sparks any creativity. One has very good, powerful, complete routines. Cameo is pretty simple to...

    Dumb Questions

I wouldn't say misdirection is 90% of what I do. I would say that Penn and Tellers cigarette act explaining sleight of hand is probably the best example of exactly how things play into it. Youtube it. It's entertaining and informative. No segue here...just jump into it... I don't have...

    How would you spend $200?

Art of Astonishment series. If I don't say it someone else will. (not just Card magic, but tons of good effects that can be adapted to many styles.) I also second the Card College series.(This will strengthen your fundamentals and then teach you advanced sleights...also giving you tons of...

    Your thoughts on psychics...

I'm torn on this issue. I do not believe it is right to claim psychic powers you don't have for financial gain. That is to say, cold reading and pretending to speak to someone that has died in order to make a lot of money as being a psychic. This goes for 'pet' psychics too...I mean...I...

Researching Magic - How do you get sources?

Local library will help, some, with older artists and history. If you have the money (45 for 6 month...65 for one year and i think 200 for lifetime...which includes the future) you can invest in the Genii magazine archives. Tons of articles and interviews and such. Dates all the way back...

    Dumb Questions

I honestly think that magic is a mixture of every tool ever used or exposed. Just think. An audience member knows about the DL. You can do a dozen or so different things that aren't a double lift...but all of them could be a double lift. So they think they have you figured out, but can...

    New Trick

Ahh. I can understand that. I would go ahead and perform it. And if you later find out that it has been done you can take it out of your routines. And I agree, coming up with new material becomes more difficult every day with as many effects and creators there are now. -Rik

    New Trick

If you're not trying to market it...why would you need it to be original? Just checking. I mean, I can understand wanting to know if something has been done before, but if you're not marketing you shouldn't be in such a rush to find out. I've never seen it, that I can remember.
