    Misdirection

And not to disrespect you. But my first example was actually a vision oriented misdirection. They watch you put 'their card' into the middle of the packet in your left hand while you actually set it up to be sticking out of the packet in your right. And I agree that sleight of hand should be...

    Misdirection

Yeah. Misdirection is built into magic so deeply that doing a move secretly is misdirection. Even if you don't 'distract' them and perform a pass with them burning your hands, perfectly, then you've misdirected them into thinking their card is in the middle. Misdirection is another word...

    Forums = Not Constructive?

I agree. I honestly read a lot here-without posting a ton-for the past year and just recently starting putting my comments in different areas. People are taking what you said out of context, how about no one can say things like 'you suck' or 'delete video it's a disgrace' but everyone has...

    Just Noticed // Need Help

Same suggestions as though you were first learning it. Take it as slow as you can with a few cards, then half deck...etc. You have to train yourself just like when you learned it on your right. No secret to it...other than the same method, it's just going to feel awkward for a while.

    Favorite Card Magicians

Favorite magicians who use cards. Blaine-He's just so smooth with everything, and street/closeup magic is his specialty. Chris Kenner-Just watching him do the S.W.E. Shift...yeah...his other stuffs cool too :-p Daniel Madison-A lot of out of the box thinking, his philosophy on any means to...

Freezer Burn by Chris Lafferty (Pre-release Review)

Nice review, I'm already excited...too poor to get...but will probably buy anyway (: Dee-So this was the e-book you might have mentioned to me coming out next. I can see why you were both excited and into keeping it a secret. These effects just sound awesome. I really hope Chris gets...

    Making people happy with magic

I want to say I use my camera about half as often as I perform live. It helps on new material and since a lot of my closer friends are away at college it helps me see where performances need improvement. I almost never post videos, nor do I battle here...I love fooling myself when watching...

THAT was the "Dive of Death"?

Considering he was smiling before the initial jump, he never intended to make a 'dive to death'...he would have been more serious. He might have intended to vanish, but that's something that could/would have been practiced and better performed. I'm not sure what happened...but the special...

To be a magician, do you need to be someone else?

If you're doing mentalism, it's hard to be yourself...since you're not a psychic...(devils advocate...more fun than agreeing with everybody ^_^ ) As a general rule of thumb, however, be yourself and put your personality/likes/dislikes into your magic. I will paraphrase a quote by Robert...

    Palming problems?

I have decently big palms and shorter fingers. Makes palming (especially backpalming) easy for me. Practice + misdirection...its not too hard, I usually have a joke or comment put in the trick just long enough to top-palm (or bottom palm...or sidesteal to a palm...) Yeah, one of the few...

Problem with a friend when performing

Learn a really quick, impromptu, practically self working card trick that plays big with he right performance. If it doesn't use difficult sleights you'll be more likely to nail it and once you get past it your audience will not only be amazed, you will probably relax some (try Invisible...

What tricks do you get the greatest reactions with?

I would have to say a card through table I do gets the best reactions. Routining with my friend at parties was always fun. We developed an entire mentalism/psychic routine that always kills. Ummm....ACR, signed card to hat/mouth/shoe... card to spectators pocket, lapse, fatal... Sponge...

I have to do a 30 minute presentation

You could do it on performance styles. How ten magicians can do the same trick, but present it differently, and how changing what you say can make it more (or less) relevant to your audience. This could also cover the difference that Daniel Madison is always talking about, no more 'if i push...

    And the obsession continues...

Yeah...that's pretty much the sexiest thing i've seen in a loooong time. And thanks for posting it-after seeing it I started messing around...epic failure...at a possible impromptu version...but did come up with a new card production. Possible lead into your effect. Pm'd details. -Rik

New 1-on-1 : FLICKER by Doug McKenzie

I can see this working really well for laymen. As a magician, probably fool me in real life, but just my nature of looking for what's going on saw a few things that were awkward (on camera) that led to me figuring this out pretty quickly (and I only watched it once...). To say I know...

Cold? What I am going to do?

Self-Working tricks? The simple solutions are usually not worth thinking about though. Hand warmers [mentioned above] (like hot hands(i think that's the brand...)) are cheap and effective.

Oh not another pick a card trick!

Well, the rest of what I said could be applied. Aronson's Stack is one of a few that are very well known and after learning the stack order itself there are already dozens of tricks spelled out for it. Most of which are practically self working. Thanks, I'll look into it, I've been looking...

Oh not another pick a card trick!

second the motion. Look into creating your own effects? Think of what you want to do, and then work backwards to how you can do it. It's one way to create. I'm currently pushing all my time into memorizing a stack...maybe that's the way to go? (Aronson's stack if anyone wanted to...

    A new card control

I'm going to say that no tutorial is the best way to go. A) refine it til its perfect, you do it very well now seeing as how so many people are blind to the method. B) making tutorials for every thing you create, immediately, without compensation...not smart in the long run. If you take...

    Cinders by Dee Christopher

...Wish I had thought of that before the second time I did it...I did learn my lesson though. (realizing that if I had followed the e-book exactly as it was written I wouldn't have had to learn on my own). Anyway--Very good review, this really is an effect you have to put time in to be able...
