    Fraud Story :: Something I didn't expect

    No no, my fault, I wasn't actually implying that either! Haha. Stupid internet. Uhh no but yeah, it felt like a rather stingy act personally - I was just mentioning that technically, it might be expected by some people, s'all.

    Interested in winning lots of magic?

    It'd be interesting to do something completely non-magical. I'm sure people get up to really interesting things when they're not practicing or (God forbid!) performing magic.

    Fraud Story :: Something I didn't expect

    Usually people are more than happy to let you keep money. But it's always good to have a spare note just in case. I don't perform bill magic (hard with Aussie bills), but if I did, I'd have one of every denomination in my wallet just in case. Of course, it's not unreasonable to expect the...

    THIS is how to practice

    There is an (well, for those who are serious in magic anyway) article, whose author/title/publication escapes me at the moment (would it be JIS by any chance, since he does seem to be the most obvious first guess for these sorts of things), which argues, from my memory fairly successfully, that...

    I Hate Hecklers!

    Don't hate, just improve. Not justifying what the spectator did, but it's still your fault as a performer/

    d+M's Stuff

    My general sentiment from the trilogy is that One is more geared towards tricks, and Three moreso towards sleights and ideas, which makes the latter overall probably more suitable and interesting for the advanced magician, and the former for those who prefer to just look at the tricks.

    Smoke and Mirrors Released Again?

    Sighs... I'm really running out of these things, and I really liked them, too. Might have to find a new deck to use. :(

    Put the cards down...

    Alright, that's fair enough. Well, would you not agree that the ability to perform some simple mind reading stuff, when you have no cards, or other props on you, increases your versatility and overall improves your magic, in the greater sense of the word? The ability to perform something on...

    Should I even get Royal Road to Card Magic?

    So tell me something. If just about every single modern master of the art of magic calls Royal Road an indispensable resource, and 99% of magicians who study it learn to become better magicians, where does that put you?

    Put the cards down...

    Mmm. Randy, I'm not sure I agree with that per se - but a question. What would you do if you were asked to perform, and you did not have cards available?

    Cards - Do they matter? - Poll

    Interesting that only 1 in 5 people actually get asked more with custom decks than normal bikes. With the amount of whinging of that popular argument "People think it's a trick deck", you'd think there'd be more. Which for me reinforces what I've always said about it being about how you handle...

    Moveless Magic

    I use Mnemonica in just about every performance, and they never come up with an excuse. I personally feel that if the audience suspect a gimmick, and tell you so, then you haven't been as moveless as you think.

    Put the cards down...

    I'm rather surprised how many people just haven't understood the thread... The point is not Bill Malone. Randy, you are not as good as Bill Malone. Neither are you, Tim. Bill Malone has the skills to do cards, and do them well. For everyone else, this is one way in which we can improve our...

    Put the cards down...

    Actually, funny you mention this. I was asked to do magic the other day, on a bus, on the way back from camp. Cards were in the luggage - didn't have a thing on me. I mentioned it in passing, and my friend, who had asked to see the magic, replied, "Well I guess it tests how much magic you can...

    Hello?

    Hey honu. It sounds like you're pretty new to this sorta stuff. The best places to start are The Royal Road to Card Magic and Card College. More sleight of hand than you can wave a stick at.

    Casanova inc

    Yes, if you thought it out, the basic concept could be applied to cards. If you're serious about it though, consider getting the DVD.

    Where to go next?

    Study and watch Criss who? On a serious note, try Tommy Wonder's Visions of Wonder. Great magic, and great thinking. I've heard great things about the books (raved from everyone I know who's worth anything), so the DVDs sound up your alley. Or maybe Vernon's Revelations series?
