    April 2009 :: Proudly Presenting

Well, this is stagnating. Let's see if I can't get a little momentum going in my typical incendiary way. Humanity. The majority of videos I see of performances of Dan and Dave material or whatever single-trick DVD that came out this month are bland, derivative and stultifying. There's a...

What do you guys think of eBay?

It recently occurred to me. I know my argument is not technically about torrents and the like, that I was talking specifically about the second-hand market. However, I felt I should point something out. Calling someone a thief for using torrents doesn't scan. It's not theft because you are...

    Cardistry DVDs

I can't clearly read the word in the second picture. It's a bit grainy.

    Loops

You can buy Mesika's elastic thread in a spooled dispenser at most magic dealers and tie your own loops. Though personally I prefer to just buy the premade ones as I really suck at tying my own. Do not use Kevlar thread to make loops as it does not stretch.

What are some good tricks/DVDs for Street Magic?

There's a certain irony at work here. Anyway, if you're looking to do fewer cards, Bobo's Modern Coin Magic has all the essentials for coins listed and a lot of the sleights and tricks can be adapted with relative ease for other small objects. I would also invest in a Thumb Tip along with...

What are some good tricks/DVDs for Street Magic?

Threads like this are rather predictable in that most of the responses are going to be, "Buy more Theory 11 products!!" Get yourself a copy of Royal Road to Card Magic, Modern Coin Magic, and Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic. You'll have the fundamentals down pretty quickly.

    Blaine VS. Angel

One of them is taller than the other. That's about it, actually. I don't really get these threads. They're all the same back and forth of people who say that Criss is a dickhead, the people that whine that what David does isn't presentation at all (odd logic, that), the people who hate them...

    Cardistry DVDs

I've read this post like 10 times and I still can't see why you hypersensitive wuss-bags are getting your perfumed panties in a bunch. Christ, would you all just stop your sobbing for 5 minutes and exercise a little reading comprehension? Anyway, I'm going to throw in a recommendation for Jeff...

What do you guys think of eBay?

Apples and oranges. Selling off an item that you have no use for anymore is not the same thing as making duplicates of copyrighted material for personal profit. That is what copyright law refers to when talking about reselling material. It is not referring to selling a used paperback book to...

What new card DVDs/books to buy?

Just get Royal Road and a couple volumes of Easy to Master Card Miracles. You'll have more than enough material from that point on.

    Business section of the site?

When you get right down to it, this place is more of a social club than anything else. I guess that admins are happy with that.

What do you guys think of eBay?

Do you really think Steven King gives a flying **** whether or not you bought his book at a used book store? And if the publishers really cared, why haven't they done anything to put make used bookstores illegal? And really, it sounds to me like you're the one trying to justify your own...

What do you guys think of eBay?

Magicians give away stuff they don't use all the time either for a trifling sum to a friend or for free. They share each other's libraries constantly. When you've made it to the big time, friends start sending you review copies of their new material to get feedback, quotes, etc. And then...

Feed Back on How To Get Gigs and Keep Clients

A good start-up guide is particularly useful. Most of the business guides out there assume you've already gotten through that phase. Definitely publish this.

How do I take my magic to the next level?

You have three great books already in your possession. More material isn't the issue. Personally, at this point I would go to Lybrary dot com and start searching for books on performance theory. Eugene Burger also has a few books and DVDs out on the subject, and Exploring Magical...

Do the Bucks have good magic?

Splitting hairs. If you have to rework a flourish to become magic, it wasn't magic in the first place I wasn't talking about reworking it to fit your style. That was a weird leap of logic that assumes a lot of things. Oh spare me. If you can't argue a point without resorting to...

Do the Bucks have good magic?

If you have to rework something to turn it into magic, then it is not magic.
