    Aggressive Expansion

If this is what the new generation of magicians consider to be mentalism, then I fear that Theo Anneman may rise from his grave and murder us all by the next full moon. If you really want to get a crap-ton of stuff and learn about mentalism, your best bet is going to be Docc Hilford's Monster...

Tally's or Bikes? The Final Showdown...

Name some. Because I find them unbelievably scarce.

    Streetlight Manifesto challenge

A zippy tempo doesn't mean you yourself need to flourish at warp speed. As long as you have good rhythm, timing, and flow you should be fine. Besides, One Foot... kicks into a similar tempo to Somewhere in the Between after the intro.

    Street magician - Tricks

Like everyone else in the thread. Personally speaking, I would grab a copy of Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic and maybe Jay Sankey's Anytime, Anywhere. You should be good to go with that alone. If you really must purchase a single trick DVD, Ghost Bills by Andrew Mayne kicks the living...

    Streetlight Manifesto challenge

Since I expect this to hold up as a performance, it should be one take. I have nothing against montages, but I've already seen clearly that most people here cannot edit but erroneously believe otherwise. And after all the battles showcasing only one move or flourish, I want to see actual...

Tally's or Bikes? The Final Showdown...

Again, there's a line between fun and insipidity. And if something this cliche and masturbatory meets your standards of fun... Well it's not something I would advertise.

Tally's or Bikes? The Final Showdown...

Hooray, we're telling newbies how to spend their money on a matter of personal taste. Get used to the fact that not all of us are content to stagnate in mediocrity. Thank you, Tommy Chong. There's a line between fun and useless insipidity. And apparently some of you are content to...

I've only been to a few concerts. I'm always broke when my favorite bands are in town.

    Why Not Battle Artists

It never occurred to you that they have better things to do than indulge a bunch of webcam jockeys? Do you honestly believe that hackneyed, cheesy "battles" got them where they are? Better question: Why should I care? Jesus cross-dressing Christ on a bike! Did you actually just tell...

    Mythology routine battle

http://forums.theory11.com/showthread.php?t=16899 If people are obsessed with doing manipulation videos set to music, then how about we see a good manipulation sequence with some good music. I tried the same sort of challenge week ago with Bigmouth Strikes Again by The Smiths, but nobody was...

Now if I could just get people to take up interest in my Streetlight Manifesto challenge.

    Streetlight Manifesto challenge

Give this another go. I want to see some performances that are more than just showing off one move, so here's the chance for you to show us what you're really capable of. I want to see a fully choreographed performance set to Somewhere in the Between by Streetlight Manifesto. Since this...

    Card Manipulation Challenge

What the hell, I'll give it another shot. See if I can't inspire somebody to do something worthwhile with their video camera.

Abso-friggin'-lutely. Saw them live last month. They did Somewhere in the Between for the encore, which is one of my favorites.

    D&D selling Jerry's Nuggets for $1?

Let's face it, in a market like this the lowest common denominator isn't just alive, it's worshiped. And I'm starting to think we might need to find a denominator even lower.

    Card Manipulation Challenge

50 bucks says if I told them to use Dana Hocking's music they'd be all over it like stink on a monkey. I wonder if more people would be open if I made the challenge to something by Streetlight Manifesto? Or am I being optimistic about how culturally aware people here are?

    What do you think?

Agreed. There are always special cases where the unexpected comes through in a big way. The over-arcing point I think we both agree on is that it's essential for a magician to continually ask himself, "Is this effect really the best for this routine/performance?" Most often, experience will...

    What are great Mentalism products?

Gunn's beginner's guide is probably the closest to what I would recommend with a couple of exceptions. The biggest of which being that I do not recommend Ian Rowland's book to beginners. I'm a skeptic myself, but Rowland is a bitter cynic and has never done a real reading in his life. This...

Is it possible to be proficient with both card and hypnotism?

How about if for no other reason than The Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnotism would give you better instruction and value for your money than one friggin' trick ever could.
