I would say the person who spent months working making it his own to fit his style and then worked it on test groups before putting into his act is better for the work. You need to know the effect the patter and how it fits you and your act before you show it to someone. Learning something today...

The Ricky Jay books would be a good start. Pricey though, but well worth it if you are a student of the history of magic and street acts. Also there should be no problem talking about magic in the Bible if you frame it from a literary stand point not a theological one.

Some of my most valuable decks are used. Then again some of them are over 100 years old, but the only reason not to use a deck is if you are planning on reselling it. It's like guys who buy guitars and never play them. Cards are tools and tools need to be used.

In a real money game where the deck passes with the button, there is too much heat on your hands trying to nullify the cut. Card players are a different breed then they were 113 years ago. For a gambling demo where you can have misdirection then you can get by with passes.
