    Is Society Killing Creativity?

I love TED. So many amazing people and ideas. Thanks for bringing that up. I quite agree with him too. It's a point because I've found that the most memorable teachers people have are the ones who helped the student find and hone in on her/his creative "niche". Thanks again for that link.

Old Magic Can Still Teach New Tricks

That's not quite the point. It's not a "Whatever, I don't care" attitude, it's more of a "You know the secret? That's okay. It's my job to show you that trick in a way it would 'touch' you, the audience." attitude. You are right about that of course, and I've never said otherwise. Part...

Old Magic Can Still Teach New Tricks

Thanks, Tumbleweed. :-) I did kinda go in a different direction than I had oringinally expected, but that (also) is the point. Her performance of an old trick not only made me look at the trick a new way, it lead me to other thoughts about it as well. That's something we all should shoot...

Magic Shows on TV: Your Picks

I bet I'm the only one old enough to remember a dective show waaaay back in the early 70's called "The Magician" starring none other than the Hulk's alter ego Bill Bixby. Before "The Hulk", he played a detective/illusionist/escape artist in the lead role. If I recall, Bill Bixby was a...

Old Magic Can Still Teach New Tricks

When I was about ten years old I received a magic kit for Christmas. One of those big ones with the words "OVER 50 MAGIC TRICKS" splashed on the box. Now this was in the days before the internet, DVD's, even video tape. So it was a big box, with a lot of plastic playthings and this big book...

Saturday Night Contest - In The Air Tonight

I don't think this will win, but I can say that the photo wasn't manipulated and there were no strings or wires holding me up. It was Halloween of 04. I'm a hypnotist...not a levitator... :-)

Jokes you use in your routine...

I used to do comedy improv back when I lived in Boston 20 years ago...(damn, I'm OOOOOLD) so I use what I've been trained on from that. I have to agree that scripted jokes seem so "contrived". I think it's a good start if you've never been able to improv, but I think you shouldn't just use...

    Most Useful Effects

One of the best impromtu tricks I've ever come across is "Clutch". It is amazingly simple and yet the effect is stunning. I use it to surprise an audience and keep them off balance before I start a hypnosis induction. :-)
