If you want a sexy back design - get the Split Spades. If you want a slightly less sexier back design - get the Tally Ho's. They handle basically the same. 'nuff said.

Itwasluck, I disagree with you on the first point. In my opinion, a purist will make his/her own patter to suit his/her own style. He/she will not stick to the original script and may even do a routine in a different order from which it was taught. A purist is one who uses no gimmicks...

There's a whole genre of magic called "Geek Magic" which deals with this sort of stuff (like razor blade swallowing, glass eating, etc.). There's also a DVD called Geek Magic by Thomas Medina that teaches you the stuff. I think it's available at Penguin Magic...

Also, dribbling the cards and leaving them slightly sloppy aids in the action of the bottom deal... (Before anyone goes off at me for "exposing" - it's in the damn trailer...)

The second edition should have a bit in the Publisher Info section saying something like "reprinted in 2007" (or 2008) whereas the older version will just have "printed in 1992"...

They both have all your requirements. It's just that AoA has more than just cards while The Paper Engine has ONLY card material.

Get Dangerous if you want walkaround, little setup type stuff. Get TDP if you like table/psychological stuff. Get The Paper Engine if you want awesome card sleights and effects. Get AoA if you want more than just cards. That basically sums it all up. Cheers, Shanku

Buy Bobo's Modern Coin Magic if you want something different from cards. If you don't mind learning some more card magic, save up a few more dollars (for shipping) for Kevin Ho's Smooth Operations.

You could incorporate both ideas together. Start with the card flipping over into the middle, then use the Hot Shot Cut move where the card flicks out and then catch it.

You're asking if you can perform something you bought, your way? You can perform anything in your own style. If a part of an effect or flourish is too hard for you even after days, weeks or even months of practice, do it differently! There is no rule saying you have to perform everything exactly...
