Comedy in Magic

I have a couple questions for a certain BrianationX. Please refrain from responding to any of them with the words "mouth" or "garbage" or any synonyms.

1. How old are you? (Because you don't sound all that mature)

2. Why EXCACTLY is Brain Tudor the best magician in your eyes?

3. Why EXCACTLY do you hate comedian magicians so much?

4. Why EXCACTLY do you press enter after every 15 or so words? (Just curious)

Also, I seriously wanna see a MAGIC battle between brianationx and a comedy magician. No music in the background. Just patter. I think the results would be very interesting! (I'd challenge but sadly I don't have a video camera)

1.Im 19 and I have been doing magic since 1999, I picked up ShowOff in 2001

2.Because his Magic is clean and fast,He doesn't need any MouthGarbage to justify his tricks,
He faster than anybody else and none of his footage has ever been speed up.
His flourishes are the best in the world and no one can execute them as good as he does.
He has a lot of understanding too (magic)

3.I don't hate them,I just don't think they are doing magic any good,
they are taking away from the magic with the MouthGarbage.
They use the least possible technical skill and hide the fact with cheap 1 dollar jokes

4.Because I can and its easier for the reader to understand
Its a Brian Tudor Sort of thing,If you watched ShowOff vol 3 you would understand

How about no patter and just Music in the background
It would be more difficult for the "comedian" to pull that off

Actually Horace Goldin did that in Vaudeville.

And I believe Steve Martin had several comedy magic skits set to music with no dialog. But that's because Steve Martin can do whatever he wants.

alright

alright, brianationX, answer me this. Bill Malone, who has spent years training with ..... has included comedy in his routines for years and his sleight of hand is almost unmatched. he is one of the leading magicians when it comes to entretainment. i highly doubt youre naywhere as "proficient and proffessional" as brian tudor as you say you are, seeing as though ive seen youre name on another magic forum...one youve been banned from.

Most of Bill Malones magic is sleights with tons of comedy. Seeing as how you say comedy magicians are horrible for the art, tell us how Bill Malone is an award winning sleight of hand artist, and respected by many names in the industry.

Funny how BrianationX just completely disregards the people who just proved him wrong. Anyway, this thread is useless guys. Everyone agrees with teach other except BrinationX. Clearly he thinks that Tudor is a god. Let him. Tudor is very good. Is he a god? No.

Not all magicians have to have comedy in their routines. I believe that comedy is good because it makes the spectators feel a bit more comfortable. However, that may not be their presentational style. Saying that you HAVE to have comedy would also be incorrect. You can have whatever style you want.

I know that I'm starting to sound like an E mod and I may get bashed for this. (E's forum style has actually grown on me tremendously in the past few months....) This is I think the 2nd thread today I'm about to say this about.

Lock this thread. For the sake of Theory 11's "community". Lock this thread.

I think im right in believing that comedy COULD detract from the magic,
It could also make a weak effect look good.
On the other hand, it could also enhance it.
You need to be careful to use your comedy at the right time and in the right way.
Comedy is great misdirection, and it can be used to draw the audience's attention away from a secret sleight or method.
A good rule of thumb is, Do the "move" on the laugh.
Comedy can also be helpful in adding interest to what might otherwise be "dead time".
But when you need the audience to remember important points, or when you're coming to the climax of a routine,
focus everyone's attention on the effect and don't ruin the moment with a cheap laugh.
Think about what you're doing, when to do it, and why. "

I can't believe I'm saying this, but well put Brianation, well put.

I agree. By jove. Morgician? Did you see this?

D.

Well its not like I changed my mind or anything
I still stand by the fact that there are magicians out there
(not everyone is a famous professional magician)
that use comedy to justify their lack of skill
And that people don't appreciate the work some magicians put into their routines
by working hours to master a sleight

Robert Greene's 48 Laws of Power

Rule #30
Make Your Accomplishments Appear Effortless

page 245

Your actions must seem natural and executed with ease. All the toil and practice that go into them, and also all the clever tricks, must be concealed. When you act, act effortlessly, as if you could do much more. Avoid the temptation of revealing how hard you work - it only raises questions. Teach no one your tricks or they wll be used against you.

Duh, Of course Laymen don't understand sleights or Flourishes
But if they did then they would hire a real magician instead of a clown
are you a clown?
Im just asking because Im curious
not to disrespect you.
and theres nothing wrong with being a clown
Some of my friends are clowns,Im totally cool with them
I just don't consider them magicians because they make a balloon not pop by poking it, or because they make toy rabbits act as if they were alive
